This is a work flow to create a welded OBJ from Poser. This is a fitting room work flow but will work for Setup Room too. This flow is a bit circuitous but until deeper issues can be fixed it will work. This utilizes a new feature added for preserving the current OBJ reference when re-saving a Figure file (CR2). This feature is definitely not the ultimate solution for welding OBJ's saved with figures. This process will hopefully help while we work towards a more complete solution.

  1. Create your Fitting room figure. Don't copy the morphs. We're going to do that later.

  2. Save the new figure to the library. Poser should NOT offer to preserve the OBJ. If it does, don't. You need a new OBJ for the groups. Yes it will be un-welded.

  3. Save you your scene and then in a new empty scene import the OBJ that was created with the new figure. You need to use the "Weld Identical Vertexes" option. Yes that messes up the winding order but in a minute that won't matter.

  4. Inspect the OBJ for open seams if there are any fix them with the weld command on the group tool's weld function.

  5. Re-export the OBJ using only the "Include Existing Groups" and "Preserve Existing Material" option. Un-check everything else. Overwrite the OBJ you imported.

  6. New scene

  7. Load the original donor figure you used for the setup room. Load the new figure. Make sure the new one is selected

  8. Figure > Copy Joints from ... and pick the donor figure.

  9. Figure > Copy Morphs ... and pick the donor figure.

  10. Save the new figure to the Library. This time Poser will offer to keep the OBJ. Make sure you keep the original OBJ.

Now you can refine your new figure. Whenever you re-save it to the library select the option to re-use the existing OBJ. This workflow will work anytime you need to change the grouping for an OBJ. It will also work if you create a new figure in the setup room.

Remember don't bother copying morphs or refining the rig until you've re-welded the OBJ.

Another trick this allows you to use is that you can use a different donor for joints and morphs. For example if you're making a skirt and you've already made a dress with a similar outline you can use the dress you have as a donor for the morphs in the skirt.
