Okay, I've been using 11 for a couple of months now, and as near as I can tell the search function is close to being unusable. I am constantly opening up 10, using its search function, finding what I need, writing down a name, and then doing the search in 11 with the specific location...

...it used to be that if a folder was called something like "shirt" the search results displayed everything in that folder, now it only displays the folder, with no clue as to the contents of the folder itself(I have 12 runtimes, with over 60 gigs of stuff in them--there are a lot of folders named "shirt"), so I'm having to go through and locate every folder called "shirt" and manually go and see if that folder has the shirt I'm actually looking for. Please tell me there's a work around here, because some of those folder contents are not named "shirt". Instead they might be named something like "floral print 01", and they are under a folder called "shirt"...

....I am having the hardest time finding things, I know I can't be alone. It is seriously(SERIOUSLY) bogging down my work time by eating hours sometimes just trying to find things that a simple search pulled up a thumbnail for in Poser 10.

...on another note, when clicking on the search input, and then dragging to highlight the text, nothing happens, I have to manually back space every letter in the file name. I know this might sound a bit nit-picky, but do that 10 times in an hour and you're eating up a lot of time, time that could be used trying to navigate the search results to find my content....

...another nit pick, the auto suggest, can it be turned off? If I type in "Apollo" I want to search for "Apollo", but typing "Apollo" and hitting enter, invariably selects the auto suggest "ApolloMaximus" which isn't what I wanted to search for, so now I have to click in the input, backspace every single letter, and type it again, this time selecting the correct auto suggest phrase and going forward. I can't highlight enough how counter intuitive this actually is. How do I simply turn this function off. Don't want it, don't need it, is seriously cutting into my natural workflow.

On another note, what gives with the undo function(ctrl+z) only working when you've actually clicked on the workspace area. If you're in the search box, undo does diddly squat. Is this intentional? Can it be turned off?

I'm desperate for any tips you guys might have, I am literally wasting hours of time on things that used to be as simple as search, drag, drop, move along.

Check your general preferences search functions and see how deep a search you want Poser to do. Your settings are None, Shallow and Deep. From the sound of it, your setting is on None, or Shallow.

To make the difference clear:

So use "DEEP" in order to look for a specific file.

Your rants about the Poser search function I can't comment because I've never used it. I prefer the normal OS search function because it'll also find files which were accidentally placed outside the Poser runtime structures.

Another tip: if setting it Deep does not immediately bring up all the files you searched for, switch back to the Library window while still searching, and then back to your active Search. The program needs a few seconds to refresh. It's an annoying quirk Poser 11.2 introduced and I cannot figure why it happened, but it takes a lot longer for it to find stuff. BUT it finds them, it just needs that trick for completing the search.

I'm set on deep. It's not those settings as far as I can tell.

Here's an example. If I search for the term "hair" in Poser 10(same exact runtimes as Poser 11), and tick "figures", "hair", and "props"...

I come up with these results:

...note that the scroll bar has shrunk considerably because its finding hundreds of things with the word "hair" in it, literally hundreds, including numerous "chairs" because chair contains the word "hair"...

...also note that I can expand the folders from the search panel without having to click "locate" and then dig through multiple runtimes, with thousands of items in each one, and also no indication of where that folder might be in those runtimes, I have to scroll up and down to find the folder I just told it to find--granted it's highlighted, but come on, that would be relatively minor if I only had one runtime with a handful of items, but I've got multiple runtimes dating back over twenty years now(Poser and later DAZ)...

....now the same search in Poser 11:

....note, there's only a handful of folders, no actual items, and no way to browse those folders from the search panel.

My settings have been on "deep" since I installed it, and it's had plenty of time to index the folders.

Wow, that actually worked!!!!

What in the Holy Hand Grenade is happening here?!!!

....now if I could just turn the auto suggest off, and get it to highlight the entire word in the search panel with a single swipe, so a single backspace gets me back to typing. I know that sounds minor, but it's honestly major disruption to my workflow. No one want to click at the end of a long word and then hit backspace twelve times to eliminate it, just let me me select the entire phrase and start typing again.

....oh, and thanks for the tip, I can't believe that actually worked.

There appears to have been an attempt to speed up the initial search response (just my interpretation of what I see, not knowledge of actual internals) by only returning the first 20 results immediately. The switch of focus away from, and back to the library prompts another batch of 20 results, while the searching continues internally. Further refreshes will continue to give more results.

The search is working, but without adding some other visual feature to the GUI to reassure the user that there are more results to be delivered, it feels a bit disappointing/confusing. I'm certain that attention IS being paid to what users are experiencing and efforts continue to be made to improve what users need most.
