Is the 3D Boolean operation in Carrara 1.01 just broken or what? Anytime I try to do a boolean with 3D primatives in the Aseembly room Carrara craps out. WIN98SE, PIII 875Mhz, 256mb Mem, GeForce 2 MX. I can do them fine in the Spline Modeler... Is this a problem with everyone else as well? Clint

Yes. I have been unable to use primatives in the Assembly room. Haven't tried them in the Spline Modeler.

Haven seen this problem here. Here any kind of boolean equal in what room works fine. But have to say, i haven't installed any update. geek

Convert the primitives to vertex objects before you do the boolean operation. Mark

Oooops. Forgot to mention increasing the fidelity of the vertex conversion. Make sure you move the slider around 350 or so during the conversion from primitive to vertex. And of course, the fidelity also needs to be increased during the boolean operation itself. Mark

Thanks for the replies... I get Render Failed errors in the assembly room after the 3D boolean finishes. I've tried saving the file, rebooting then opening the file..still get the Render Failed message in each window I have open. It works fine in the Spline - no problems there at all. I dont think its a problem with horsepower. ;) Looks like a major programing flaw to me. Clint

I haven't had any problems doing booleans with primatives and simple vertex objects in the in the assembly room. I'm using a pentium II 450, 128MB, 3Dfx Voodoo2

Ah yes, another reason why we need a patch to help fix this mentally disabled program call Carrara! Let's start seriously annoying the crap out of Eovia for it. Otherwise we will never see a new patch, and it's more than needed.

I don't use Carrara, but I had problems of holes when using boolean operations. The best way I found to fix them was to use Amapi 4.15 : the final objects are lighter in vertices and the boolean operation itself is quite faster. Fabien3D CREAFab, la crtion numique autrement...
