Subject: How to adjust the parameter dial text size in 11.2?

Something weird happened to the text size for the parameter dials and most of the other text labels in my Poser 11.2 UI a few days ago: They got much smaller... even the X buttons to close a window like the "About" panel are very small. The Windows 7 window and close buttons framing the Poser UI haven't changed size -- just the text within Poser. It is difficult to read some of the labels because some words are very abbreviated. You'd think with a smaller text that more letters would fit. At first I thought the default language had been changed with a poor translation but this was not the case after all.

I have not made any updates to this app but have recently added a few morph characters I bought here. I've looked all over in the Poser manual and searched the Web for help but saw no advice. I've tried various dock sizes and even reset docks to the default setup with no improvement... Any ideas???

Check and maybe adjust the value of the UI scale under Edit; General Preferences; Interface. Change it from 1 to 1.2 or 1.3 to see if that makes a difference. image.png

Yes, I did that some time ago, because the older I get the harder it is for me to see small text. I have mine set to 1.35, and I wouldn't suggest trying anything higher, as it can mess up different parts of the UI.

Thanks for the replies, guys!

I tried 1.1, 1.14 and 1.2 and each one did indeed make the text larger and no longer truncated. However, those larger sizes also removed the white coloration of the parameter dial scroll bar that appears when there are more dials than space -- making it very difficult to see and drag. But at least I know how to make these adjustments now.

I think all these problems happened when an on-screen video capture app I installed a week ago recommended that I change the W7 "Let Windows Decide What is Best" setting to something like "Give Performance Priority Over Appearance". Right after that all my display settings got screwed up. Text and icons all over was too small and things did not return to normal after changing back to what had been. I've manually adjusted everything available in the Personalzation, Accessibility and Appearance sections to restore original font and icon size without success. My monitor's native resolution of 1920x1080 is still set correctly so that's not the problem. The best I could do is increase the DPI size for text and icons to 110%. But that may be what is messing with Poser now. If this bugs me any more I may have to do a system restore, but I fear that may corrupt Poser somehow making me have to reinstall Poser, the updates, and enough characters, accessories, backgrounds and props to keep me busy for months...

This may give you some more useful information:link

In the past i have used the method of disable high dpi scaling by changing the shortcut for Poser to specify "let application decide".

Thanks for the tip!

I tried to change the "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings" under the compatibility tab but all choices were greyed-out no matter which related settings I tried.

You may try a system restore then as you mentioned above. If the restore point was after Poser was installed then Poser should still be fine. If you installed Poser after that change then you will have to reinstall. In any case, most people are using a second runtime folder separate from the default "Poser 11 Content". You can rename your current folder as a backup. A runtime folder will not be touched and can be added back to Poser as a library even after a complete reinstall. Press the add library button on the libraries window. image.png

However, I have hundreds of runtimes and it takes me months to re-load them into the Library one at a time. After the first twenty or so it takes 5-20 minutes before the Library will accept the next item.

You can edit the libraryprefs.xml file manually, to get them in there all at once. The default location: "C:UsersusernameAppDataRoamingPoser Pro11LibraryPrefs.xml" Additionally you can make several copies of libraryprefs.xml and customize each one for different projects. Create a batch script for each that will copy the custom libraryprefs file over the current one to make it active. Each runtime library is just one more entry in the file. An example: image.png

The order you place the entries in libraryprefs.xml is the order the libraries will display in Poser. You do not need to worry about the values for index=, the value gets regenerated on first load of Poser after you update the libraryprefs file. Update the file when Poser is not running. It holds a copy in memory and your changes will be overwritten by Poser on exit if you change the file while Poser is running.

Just take a copy of your current libraryprefs.xml before you uninstall/reinstall. I believe reinstall will preserve the file, but it is safe to have a copy.

The delay you are referring to may be the indexing that occurs when a library is added. The indexing will happen during startup when you run Poser after manually updating the file.

Mostly I notice a orange circle in the upper right area of the library that begins pulsing while a runtime is loading. Sometimes it will allow me to add another runtime or two while pulsing or block my efforts if there is too much content being indexed. It still puzzles me how long this indexing process takes when no content is being moved or copied -- in fact, it would take less time to make a copy of the content, often times around 50+ MB each, then for Poser to just index it. My 7200 RPM HDDs are old but still have no difficulty copying data at better than 100MB/sec sustained. Go figure.

Thanks guys for the info about mass library indexing using XML lists. I'll certainly look into that.
