Hi,
basically what I want to do is take a 2D picture, eg. a foto of road and then place a Poser 3D model (eg; V4) on the road. Is this possible in Poser? The shadows of the model should be cast correctly on the 2D picture.
Any help of pointers much appreciated!

Use Firefly and make the ground prop (the plane, not the construct) a 'shadow catcher'. There is a wacro for this. This will then arrange the shadow. Superfly does not have this facility.
If you put the street image on a square behind the figure, you will want to see the image and not the shadow because you have the shadow catcher for that. To avoid the picture being lit by the scene lights etc, make sure the image node is plugged into the ambient channel and not in the diffuse channel. Of course set ambient_value at 1.0 (or at least not zero) and make diffuse and specular values 0.0.

Use SnarlyGribblys Sky Dome. Works with Superfly too.

Snarly's skydome does work well in Superfly, however, as FVerbaas mentioned, the shadow catcher plane will not work correctly. Another problem is image resolution. The higher the better and you can use depth of field to blur the background. But the image should be a panorama or it will not look right.

Snarly's dome has a shadow catcher you can use. This image was the ezdome and people.

Shadow catcher only works in Firefly specifically, not Superfly as stated above.

The regular shadow catcher doesn't. The shadow catcher that comes with ezdome works in superfly. The image I posted was rendered in superfly

RedPhantom is correct. The shadow catcher in ezDome is specifically set up for Superfly/Cycles.

Early EZDome didn't have this feature, it was added, so you do need the latest version of EZDome for the shadow-catch feature. In case you missed the earlier link you can get it from here: Snarly's scripts
Then you can load a dome, apply your image to it and hit the shadowcatcher button and there you go.
