Hadn't gotten to that yet. Can't tell you how many times I've tracked down stuff that was presumably lost via web archive... Thanks for the reminder, incredible amount of useful info in those threads. Which makes me wonder if the old RDNA forum stuff is archived? Lot of dead bookmarks there...

That must have been very recent. I was there a couple of days ago.

Wayback seems not to have all content. I can't find my thread about dynamic cloth.

I always knew it would come to this, just didn't know how long (or short) a time it would be. Thanks for the link.

RIP. We knew it was coming.
I know some people tried to save useful threads for posterity by asking the Wayback Machine to archive them. Hard to get everything, though.

Don't feel so bad... you should see what happens when you enter poserpros.com - it's a page full of Kanji that translates into advice and guidelines for finding the right grave for you and your family.

The server's not yet down, so it's obtainable via certain roundabout means other than Wayback. All 4,667 SM Forum threads have been saved - though only in text.

Why the vague hints? If you know something more precise, why don't you say it?

Can't believe Rendo didn't make arrangements with SM to preserve that info. Years of valuable information down the tubes, just like when daz3d dissolved RuntimeDNA.

Seems to be a pattern. There's dead ends aplenty here also. The poser user base would literally be in the dark ages if not for all that information...
Gone.

I remember this being brought up when Renderosity bought Poser. I also seem to recall we got reassurances those threads will be preserved in some form so the knowledgebase won't need to be recreated again.
I am disappointed--again.
bagginsbill posted Thu, 03 September 2020 at 8:53 PM
I was delighted when SM made their own Poser forum. Finally, I thought, here was a place I could trust to keep my posts without worry that they would disappear. I wrote tons of stuff, did thousands of demos.
Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

I'm definitely glad I saved the threads I was most interested in retaining.

@HartyBart, if you saved those forum files, is there a way to make them obtainable then? Or am I being naive?
HartyBart posted Fri, 04 September 2020 at 2:09 AM
The full SM forums (not just Poser) will be archived at the Internet Archive in due course, for personal indexing and search via free keyword software such as DocFetcher. Last night I promised a certain very naughty band of super-squirrels even more nuts, and they have scampered back in to the still-live server and have been able to purloin 75% of the forum images, I'm pleased to say. I've just now tweaked the HTML to sync these 1Gb of images, so that they show inline in the pages for each forum thread. I'm now just waiting on another delivery from the Wayback Machine, to see if this first image haul can be further supplemented with missing images.

Tempus Fugit. Memento Mori.
Didn't Rendo say they were porting-over the old fora? Can't recall offhand if they said that or not.
In either event, maybe once Mr. Bart collects all the info, maybe various luminaries (who can be contacted) can go through and de-chaff what he collected, then put it in a format that can be downloaded and used offline? I mean, it can't be any bigger than the typical texture set these days... ;)

Very, very nice, HartyBart! Glad someone saved the RDNA forums, or at least some of them as well! Finsih getting the goodies, then off to install docfetcher and see what there is to see. The Wayback Machine is such a cool item.....
