Quick Question. I understand that only one generation under the current version is covered by support; the question; is Poser 10 and below freeware and if not, what can be done to acquire developer rights?
Reason: I am working on a small to midsize project using Poser Python and the UI environment and noticed it would be more efficient to simply use the original UI layout. Its also been noticed that additional themes, windows and content, such as API data can be added to the environment, so expanding compatibility with other applications.
I would suggest a public repository for those interested in building an open source version of Poser, of which UI components, themes, content and API data may be produced by the Poser users. As a token of respect for Bondware and Renderosity, an access key fee can be applied at the storefront as a microtransaction at the point of purchase of the most recent Poser version and or qualifying content.
Again, the question was about a Poser freeware (not abandonware) version. Can it be done?

There has never been any Freeware version of Poser. Anyone providing a version claiming it as Freeware is providing a Pirated copy or worse. Anyone downloading and using is in violation of the EULA. The License for discontinued versions does not end because a version is discontinued.
The current version of Poser is Poser 12.
Please note... there was a popular offer for Poser 5 and later Poser 8 which users may still encounter that was embedded with Malware. This version was so popular that some were sold at a very low price, which individuals paid for a Malware embedded version.
As always... if it is free or too good to be true, it most likely is.

Effectively, someone already made freeware that loads Poser files from the Poser 8 years - it's called Daz Studio. :-)

Correction: at one time there was a free offer of Poser Debut for a very limited time. That is how I got a copy, opened it once or twice, and never opened it again. I think I have the original installer buried somewhere.

The Python part of older versions (Python 2.7) is obsolete anyway.
Poser12 gives much better prospects because you can expand the functionality via installing other modules. Pip is supported. I for example installed Matplotlib to do some image processing of my own. This means with Poser 12 your options cover almost whatever one can do with Python.
