Okay, so it's been years since I've had a new copy of Poser in my hands. Poser 6, in fact.
So I get this urge to look at the new Poser 12
I go the the Poser 12 page to check out what the sales page has to say. Um... okay, I scroll down through a lot of really boring looking words... no real promo going on here. Oh... there are some images. Let's look at those. Um... ?
Okay, I certainly did Not come in here to type a negative review of anything. Contrary.
I came here because, well... Poser is what truly got me into all of this and I'd like to support bondware and the heroes of mine that they now have on their team working on this new Poser.
So I go back down and read the most uninteresting looking text I've ever seen anywhere. It looks like I'm about to read an EULA, but with total lack of formatting. Most EULA's at least have some defining formatting on their text.
Oh! Cool! The text says cool things! That's awesome, at least! Now I'm getting hyped!
It mentions something about some 8GB content, but only mentions Dawn, Dusk, Baby, Dog, Cat, Gorilla and Horse. If those things come up to 8GB, I think we're all in trouble!
No, seriously. I did a web search: "Poser 12 Included Content"
There are many links that lead to Posersoftware dot com and others to the Poser 12 Renderosity sale page. There is No Mention Anywhere what this purchase includes? Really?
Okay, there are some really talented (I mean Really Talented) people here at Renderosity. Please believe me when I say that the Poser 12 "Sales Page" does anything but sell Poser 12!
I'm not saying this to be mean. I'm saying this to help save Poser!
Yes, before you bring it to everyone's attention - I am very much a Daz 3D fan. Absolutely! I have to say, it was Poser that got me into Daz 3D in the first place.
Talented folks at Renderosity. Daz 3D's site is actually kinda broken right now. Galleries are down, a bunch of icons aren't working... it's kinda junk. Go take a look at how freaking beautiful it is while it's broken! They're freaking Selling their Free Daz Studio like Crazy!
I remember back when Daz Studio was always free. It was working pretty well, but I'd bet that Poser sold a lot more copies than there were downloads of free D|S. Elaborate Bytes, Smith Micro, etc., has pages of promo - and it still didn't tell the whole story of what Poser brings to the table. But they had pictures of the content, videos of the features and a list of the bazillion pieces of included content, organized into digestible categories.
New PBR!!! Well just those two words kinda make the reader expect an image. No images - not one. Just unformatted words.
I remember a while back that Poser started including some really cool new things fro some of the hero artists I've looked up to since I started in all of this. I was looking to see if it still came with this stuff and there's no way to tell.
Nah... I'm not looking for an answer to the question. That's not the point.
The point is that - how many people just leave? I'd be willing to bet that it's a Lot!
Who might want to spent $250 more for this than they would on Daz Studio? Artists. Other Art software is sold through the images that the developer shows it's capable of. The images shown on the sale page are nice. Now go and look at the images your top vendors put on theirs. They might put highlighted, shadowed text explaining what the image to showing to the potential client, right? Then show another exciting image with another short explanatory text, right? It's a scrolling commercial of the hard work they've put into this amazing thing that I'm going to now buy, download, render, and show off to all of my friends!
I say all of this because I love you folks, and I want you to succeed. I do!
Maybe someone who remembers those good ol' days of hype text promotion could whip up a decent list of content that you can put in that embarrassingly empty Editorial tab, and some of these talented artists can put some amazing renders in the gallery. Poser deserves at least that much - and so do those who approach people like me asking us to support the cause and buy it.
Looks like you've got a great release started. Those texts ad images should have been out before it ever went on sale! Just trying to be a friend!
