Judging from the shaders, this is a very old product. Any tips on how to adjust them to get rid of the gray streaks I'm getting (Poser 11 Firefly render) ?

Here's the Material Room settings:

I used Snarly's SceneFixer to adjust the gamma correction on the trans map and adjust the texture filtering, but it didn't make a difference. I tried everything from crisp to none for the texture filtering (the default is Quality). I've also set the shading rate as low as .01, and it didn't help.

What am I doing wrong?

P.S. I've also trying force show back facing polys and remove backfacing polys. No difference.

You need to get rid of the Diffuse node connected to the translucence_color, try connecting the image map directly but I'm not sure if it will still render correctly. Anyway, the dashed line connector indicates that the Diffuse node is incorrectly used in the set-up. Also, disconnect the image map node from the specular_color, that chip is black and the value is 0, it's just saying that the chip and setting is doing nothing.

Thanks. It does seem that translucence_color is part of the problem. There are also dashed lines connecting to alternate_specular.

It looks better with those removed, but a bit flat. And it seems that was how the hair shades were achieved. The texture map is the same for a variety of reddish shades, and without those nodes all look alike.

Odd that it apparently renders so differently in Poser 10 and below. I did not realize there had been such big changes in Firefly in Poser 11.

Yeah, the big improvement is the recognition of invalid node connections that many users developed as hacks and lack of knowledge. The big complaint at the time with P11 was released was black models with bad shaders.

And it looks a lot better in Poser 12, bad nodes and incorrect gamma settings and all. This program, man.

Run it through Snarly's EZSkin. There's a section for hair in there and the results are very good.

Snarly's scripts fix the bad nodes, but the hair still renders incorrectly. I think the shaders that come with the product are unfixable, at least to get the hair to look the way it does in the promo images.

I ended up buying an add-on texture pack labeled as working Poser 11. It was $4. Works beautifully.

That has been a major complaint that Snarly's nodes are not working properly in P12 especially where SuperFly is concerned. Once P12 becomes stable enough to be a 'final' version, we'll see those scripts roll out.

Randym77 try using the physical surface node. You will find fewer connections but that's because the physical surface doesn't need them. Fiddle with things and it'll all work out.
