Subject: Poser 12 Pokethrough Visibility Issue

This happened on a couple of figures. In the example below, I purposely scaled down La Femme's bolero so there'd be collar pokethrough. I had set her right collar to not be visible in camera or raytracing. However, when I rendered, her right collar was visible.

I tried another Superfly render (low non-branched GPU). Same result. Then I tried Firefly. The collar was hidden in the render.

Is this a known issue?

as I can see in you settings Visible is still checked on

when you like to render invisible the boxes to check off are Visible and Visible in raytracing

hope this helps for you to solve and get the result you are looking for

Yes, that's what I used to do. However, in P11, I discovered if I unchecked Visible in Camera and Visible in Raytracing but left Visible checked, it would not only remain hidden during the render, but during posing, I could mouse-hover and select it. That's something I couldn't do if Visible was unchecked.

But I realize now, I never used Superfly in P11, except toward the end. I should see if this same disparity occurs in P11.

I guess this feature is something that only works in Firefly, not Superfly. I tested it in P11. Results are the same as P12. Oh, well, I guess that's that. I guess it's all part of my learning curve transitioning from Firefly to Superfly.

Just a small question: why not use the morphing tool in "Tighten Fit" mode on the cloth, with the goal set to your character?

Example: Morphing Tool

Start with "Pokethrough Margin" set to 4 or 6, or more if necessary. It works on dynamic clothing. too.

I LOVE the morphing tool! But what I was showing in this example was clothing I purposely scaled down to create pokethrough (the Pixpax bolero actually fits La Femme perfectly!). I just did this to provide an example, because I noticed in P12 the visibility boxes weren't working in Superfly like they had in Firefly. I hadn't realized this disparity occurred in P11 already, until I just tested it.

Sorry if this is unclear, but using Firefly I'd gotten spoiled mouse-hovering to select body parts I'd unchecked (visible in camera and visible in raytracing). Now, with Superfly, I'll just have to using the dropdown menu to select. It's a very minor issue but a UI difference between Firefly and Superfly.

Thanks so much, 3Dpixi and Y-Phil, for your responses.

You can uncheck visible, or visible in camera and visible in raytracing to hide something for superfly. I use the latter frequently for body handles. But there seems to be a bug with Lafemme as the visible in camera and visible in raytracing method doesn't work with her or L'homme. It does work with older figures.

I did a little more testing and it seems that it doesn't work with figures with poser unimesh skinning in superfly. It works with firefly. If you convert Lafemme to poser traditional, it works, but then you lose the subdivition.

Is this an inherent bug that worked its way into P12? I'd report it and try to get an answer from the techs.

Kalypso posted Sat, 10 April 2021 at 11:42 AM Site Admin

I have this issue in P11 as well but not always. Sometimes if I reboot Poser it works so it is a remnant from the previous version.

VedaDalsette posted Sat, 10 April 2021 at 11:47 AM

Poser 12.0.471. Results are the same in Poser 11.

Red Phantom is correct! It's the skinning method that affects these renders, so I guess this isn't a bug.

I've got 3 Poser gals here and left skinning at their defaults (LF unimesh, Pauline unimesh, Jessi traditional). I conformed their shirts on them, left their skinning at defaults (same as their character figures), and scaled the clothes down overall to 95%. I also disconnected any displacements.

Then I went in to each of the character figures and unchecked Visible in Camera and Visible in Raytracing for each of their right collars and right shoulders. I unchecked Cast Shadows for these, too. I kept the Visible box checked for these.

Then I went into the clothes and unchecked Cast Shadows for their right collars and right shoulders.

Here's the preview (screen capture).
