Who cares!! If I would have wanted Amapi I would have bought the damn thing. Lets hear about Carrara related news. Oh for instance the update!! I wish these Amapi users would start a news group of the own.

Thanks for the info, cristianr . I personnaly think that Carrara users should be informed by what's going on with Amapi, even if they don't use it . After all, the two programs are destined to merge . But you're right, Tuck3D when you say an update would be some better news !... litst

This is Carrara related news, if you have Carrara you can get Amapi for a fare price, although I share your frustration for the lack of the patch, I am personally going to give Amapi a closer look.

I'll decide what to do regarding Amapi when we hear what's the "deal" with Carrara. I really don't like the Amapi U.I. & will consider other options. $200.00 "savings" is throwing good money after bad if C isn't fixed. It is good to hear that they are still in business and what the news is.

HARBINGER-3D posted Wed, 16 May 2001 at 1:06 PM

Geez - what a ripoff, after shelling out for Carrara all I get is the same deal a RDS5.5 owner gets. What's that all about?

I should apologize to the maker of the orignal post. Thank you for keeping us informed, your time is as precious to you as mine is to me. But I'm tired of hearing about this Amapi deal and that Amapi deal. And yes I will agree that they some day they MIGHT merge into one product. I also agree with Harbinger_3D about the price offered, it sucks. But I will state again this is a newsgroup not an advertising medium for Eovia. Eovia, buy some space in a 3D Magazine if ya want to advertise!!

I agree. I purchased Rhino several years ago as a means of overcoming the limitations of RDS. While I am sure that Amapi is a useful program, I already have my modelling needs covered. What I need now is news concerning the patch.

cristianr posted Wed, 16 May 2001 at 5:34 PM

Aren't we supposed to get the infamous patch some time this month??

siliconmage posted Wed, 16 May 2001 at 6:48 PM

Does anyone here use AMAPI regularly? I downloaded the trial version and was not impressed. I loaded a P4 model into it (DAZ3D's victoria)and it crashed severely the moment I panned the viewpoint around. Even Carrara can handle that much. I figured I already had Carrara and didn't need another buggy program so I immediately deleted it. Is it worth a second look? I have also been looking at Rhino, and playing with the downloaded trial version. What impresses me most is that the Rhino forum seems filled with people's WIP's and discussions of techniques, where the Carrara forum is full of bug reports and workarounds. Maybe I should use rhino for the modeling and Carrara for the render (love those shaders...)?

I have used Amapi on a number of projects as a modeler in conjunction with Ray Dream 5.5. Those of you who doubt the power of Amapi as a modeler are severely mistaken. Amapi is a professional level modeler. Using it for the first time may appear very alien to you, but believe me you will quickly get used to it and then find that you'll be able to do things in a fraction of the time it took when you were messing around with that ridiculous vertex modeler or spine modeler. Apples and Oranges, Apples and Oranges.

That's interesting because I also use both RDS and Amapi to create objects and scenes. It's a good price to upgrade to Amapi 3D 6 but you gan get Amapi 4.15 for free. Fabien CREafab, la crtion numique autrement...

Where is our patch? Eovia really needs to make a clear announcment about it. Not a bunch of hype about Amapi! They need to let us know if they are even really working on a patch, so we can either get excited ot just forget about the whole thing and move on with our lives. i'm getting sick of the whole thing, it makes me want to puke on my keyboard. EOVIA if your out there listening to all of this, you need to step up to the plate and tell us what's up with the patch for Carrara, we are getting a little restless, not to mention alittle pissed off. Be real men and speak up on this or plan on losing future loyal users.
