If you hide the ground/construct (ctrl-g) you will still have a background color which can be changed by clicking on the highlighted circle. To not have this show up, you need to save your image as a png or tiff, then that selected background color will be transparent (in your saved image file).

I never liked the Construct, so I set up my Startup Scene to use the Poser 10 Workspace.pz3. Then just save your renders in .png format, and you'll always have a transparent background.

You can find it at Libraries > Scene > Poser 11 Environments > Poser 10 Workspace

Then just go into Edit > General Preferences and set Launch Behavior to Launch to Preferred Scene and click the Set Preferred Scene button. Then go to the Interface Tab and set Launch Behavior to Launch to previous state. Click the OK button at the bottom right to save your preferences. Then save a scene called Startup, and then close P12 and relaunch it to test that the setup worked.

Then you'll never have to worry about the unwanted backgrounds again.

As above, also probably a good practice when rendering to a format that supports alpha to render over a dark or black color. You MIGHT get the slightest bit of fringing if you render against a bright or white background that could show when you go to composite.

I just go to the Properties tab, next to the parameter dials and while the GROUND is selected tick off the visible box (This will make the construct invisible), then make sure I render as a .png and that should do it for you.
