Subject: FBX file crashes PoserPro 11.3 during import-- WTF ??

I'm a serial grumbler about Poser's issues with 'open source' FBX rigs, but this problem is stranger, and much, much worse.

I noticed a neat freebie game-port figure on DA.

Cute 'Cheria' from 'Tales of the Rays' came as XPS, .MESH.ASCII and, surprisingly, FBX.

FBX was v7.3, opened and auto-loaded textures in Autodesk's free FBX Preview. A look at its structure in Autodesk's free classic FBX Toolkit showed it was correctly pathed, apparently well structured. And, at only ~600 kB, fairly 'light'.

Worth a try...

I moved my default scene's swim-suited LaF back from 'Ground Zero', set FBX import to 100% original scale.

Egg-timer came up, then Poser hard-closed-- Poof !!

WTF ??

I tried opening and closing default scene, clearing out old trial-renders. I imported and posed a prior, well-behaved FBX figure without problem.

But this ? Egg-timer comes up, then Poser hard-closes. Poof !!

Ideas ??

Same behavior with P12.  I suggest you contact the creator and get more details on its creation and rigging.

Try opening up the FBX in Blender3D and check for any weird stuff.

Update: The 'porter' only knows basics of his tools, could offer no help.

I'm at a similar level with Blender.

I've tried using Autodesk's classic FBX toolkit to export that file as '2013' or '2012' versions. Files again crashed Poser...

FWIW, Open3Mod Viewer refused to open the original, claiming some sort of memory overflow into 'protected' areas. IIRC, a similar alert appeared in 3DOC after Windows 10 tightened its 'paper walls' between programs. Needed PNGs' alpha-channel handling error-trapping to 'non-fatal'...

Is any-one able to try importing this to recent Poser running in earlier version of Windows ??

I am not sure if there is the need to explain all the technical stuff , the error is getting generated due the parts not merged in the figure

to make it short here is a download link of the fixed model for you that works in poser Fbx and Collada the collada version is adapted so it will be  the better choice to load into Poser  both are working just that the Fbx will need the textures to be adapted and it loads on x -90 degree so try Collada first.

Thank you, Cascade777. I'll try as soon as I can.

I'll also pass the warning to the 'porter', as probably means there's eg an export options flag incorrectly set. He has not yet replied to my query about work-flow...

Uncanny_Film posted Sun, 18 December 2022 at 11:25 AM

I had the same issues importing as well. Until I imported the model into blender. And re-exported as an fbx. And then it opened up and poser 12 just fine

OT

Strange thread. Cascade777's download is dead and account here has been closed. While I have on occasion DL'd some game rip models (a few, notably RE Nemesis remake Jill and Alice Madness Returns Alice model) you have to realize that doing such is in a very real sense intellectual property copyright infringement, in some ways it's no different than downloading Pirated Poser products. I guess it's not quite as detrimental as my example as the rips aren't really effecting an individual artist's meager source of art income but still... maybe best not to make a chronic habit of supporting such infringements. Food for thought.

I'd also be wary of anyone that uses fly by night peer to peer sharing DL sites, typically known for piracy shares, to share their stuff. It's just a red flag and points to other potential attitudes and behaviors. Or maybe I'm just a paranoid stick in the mud ;)

Edit

I see now this is a year old thread, which explains some things. My mistake. My thoughts on the topic stand though.

NikKelly posted Sun, 18 December 2022 at 1:13 PM

This is a genuinely sensitive topic, Primorge.

I port a lot of free props and scenes / stages from eg MMD PMX format, but must always check that they're not 'TDA Origin'. This is because that prolific artist, who'd produced a wide range of freebies, was justifiably outraged to find his freebies being sold on 'Second Life' without credit or attribution. As SL seemed unwilling to take action, he changed his freebies etc 'T&Cs' to 'No Port'. No exceptions, no waivers, no ports...

As rigged PMX figures remain beyond my skill to re-rig, I just had to check the origin of props and clothes before porting.

Clothes ?? Yes, as a PMX set ported to OBJ+MTL may not fit any Poser figure, but looks good on a wardrobe or shop hanger. And usually low-poly...

And, now, a twist: I've found a commercial, stand-alone utility which claims to convert rigged PMX figures to rigged FBX. The Windows app is not $_budget, but discussion with supplier allows for 'uninstall+refund' if FBX format incompatible with Poser.

Seasonal expenses / contingencies have put this on hold until mid-January, when I'll have the money and time to try it...

If it works, I'll suggest to supplier that they consider advertising it on Rendo-- With reminder to respect source 'T&Cs'...

This looks interesting as a potential springboard via FBX for base rigs in Poser to further tweak
