Hello everyone! It's been a while since last I was here. Lots has happened in that time but I have come back. I found I like the way poser handles renders and the look I can achieve. I am more familiar with Blender than I am with Daz so that part feels more familiar to me.  I honestly I don't care for their program any longer. Anyway, good to be back.... now to learn how things work again.

Welcome back and enjoy your stay.

Have fun !!

Thanks! I only have Poser 11 but I like what I see. Been following 12 since it was released but I was undecided as to what program I wanted to use. Its going to take some time to relearn how things work but I'm having fun and that's all that matters. Might need to ask some questions here if I run into any road blocks that Google can't help me with.

Welcome back

Just a hint, as you're familiar with Blender: Poxer11 has Cycles 1.x, Poser12 has Cycles 2.x, with corrections done to many nodes + the famous PrincipledBSF (standard + hair versions)

Thanks for the warm welcomes everyone! @Y-Phill  I will have to save up for Poser 12 but its something I've already been thinking about.

I'm still in the test render phase and getting used to the UI again. Took me forever to find the hierarchy so I could select my figures and sets by clicking them on the list.  Everything in baby-steps though so I don't burn myself out.

I'm the kind of guy who likes to have all his tools at hand, so my Poser looks like this, scattered on 2 screens, and 3 when I'm in the material room

Now that Poser is switching to the later version of Cycles, will there be a 'Poser Cycles For Dummies' to boot-strap new arrivals ??

As yet, all the Cycles references I've met have come at nodes from the wrong direction, by assuming I am a competent Blender Artist, wanting to do arcane Artistic stuff.

Uh, no. Also, Blender's procrustean UI gives me a prompt migraine.

I just want Poser to light, mirror, transparent, mask. So, CGI FX. Perforce, I'm growing a ring-binder with my own how-to notes...

Not all Blender Cycles nodes are present in Poser but you can mix with Firefly specific nodes

There are specific workarounds that have been posted to compensate for the lack of those nodes that can be found in Blender.  Especially, in combination with the Poser legacy nodes.

Interesting information. Thanks for sharing you guys! Also @Y-Phil  Love your layout. I need to do something similar. That would give me more room to find my runtimes lol.

Time for my first question. My view port doesn't show me what is in my field of view for a 1920x1080 render. How can I visualize the area so that my shot is lined up properly?

RedPhantom posted Wed, 18 May 2022 at 2:42 PM Site Admin

What you see in your viewport should be what's rendered. That's the way Poser works. It renders with the active camera, rather than like Blender which has a set camera for rendering that may not match the current view angle. The only time I've found that didn't happen was when I was using a multi-camera set up from one of the viewport display options.

It's possible it the scene is very large or very small and you need to adjust the hither and yon. That's how close or far something can be from the camera and still show up.

If you mean there's something in the way when you render but you don't see it in the preview, it could be a one-sided object. You'll need to go into your render settings preview and uncheck remove back-facing polygons. This is most common with walls and ceilings.

Finally, if you mean the aspect ratio isn't the same, you'll need to set the render dimensions to match the viewport ones. Or you look for the darkened area to see where the out of render area is. If you look at my example below, you can see two thin strips on either side. That section won't render.
