I saw the announcement about Poser 13 release date and I'm wondering if I should hold off on upgrading to Poser 12 until 13 is released?
Or will there be a grace period where the purchase of Poser 12 will include a free upgrade to Poser 13 as there are precedents of this in previous upgrades.
Or even are there any compelling reasons to convince me that I actually "really" need Poser 12 *now.
Honest answers please - I have been out of the community for ages following a severe heart attack and a dead windows machine which left me using Linux as my OS for about 18 + months.

The worth of upgrading to P12 depends on where you are now and the hardware you're running. Poser 12 added significant hardware support with support for Optix and RTX GPU's. The render speed improvement is exponential if you're using an RTX video card. Easily 10 times faster. Even CPU rendering saw significant improvements with the addition of adaptive sampling. There is a downside to P12. With the end of life of Python 2 we were forced to migrate to Python 3. Some older Python script aren't forwards compatible.Poser 12 also removes the Face Room. Some of the technical limitations of the face room were hampering future figure development. Single skin or "Unimesh" figures aren't compatible with it's technology.
And that's just the difference from Poser 11 to 12.
The exact release date for P13 is not set yet. There will be upgrade paths but none of that's been set.

Tanks for the response to my question, at least with that information I have a bit more information that has helped me make my decision.
As I have a A$700 Geforce RTX 3060 currently on order, I don't think the budget will stretch another to another A$140 for Poser 12 and then most likely having to outlay again within a couple of months, so I think I will sit on my hands until Poser 13 release date is announced.
Cheers!

Release date for Poser 13 is 23 March.
Poser 12 will also let you use multiple RTX cards for rendering.
Get a used 3060 at a later date, & cut your render times by about a third.

The release date for Poser 13 is March 23rd? I was under the impression the email about Poser 13's debut would be March '23, which to me means some time in March 2023.Release date for Poser 13 is 23 March.

Yes, of course there is, it's just that when written as March '23 (with the apostrophe before "23", the month of March is being indicated, not necessarily the 23rrd day of March.Isn't there a March 23 IN 2023?????

Is Poser 13 going to leave Windows 7 users out of the loop?
Poser 12 has been working fine so far.

At some point, you have to let old tech go.

Windows 7 is currently unsupported including for security purposes. So it's not really even safe to keep it around for testing purposes. It would not be sensible to test new software on it.

Has anyone else had problems with WIN 11 and Poser 12? Ever since I updated to WIN 11 I have a lot more problems with extremely slow Poser, hang ups, stalls, etc. These problems are not exclusive to Poser. Most of my other apps are negatively affected. Wish I could go back to WIN 10.

As far as Poser 13... The big changes for me, as I see it, are updates to Superfly (which I never use), Walk and Talk (which I never use), installing new software (which has never been an issue with me). The ability to modify the start up scene is good. I hate having to change that every single time I load Poser.
I was hoping for improvements to the clothing room, being able to have more control over the app's appearance, less trouble keeping the various panels from floating around, more(easier) ability to use the DAZ models, and a better way to select arms and legs and fingers, etc, when posing characters.

Oh even if you don't upgrade, you may choose your own startup scene: setup one as you want, then use Poser's Preferences dialog
Works with Poser11 and Poser12, at least.

I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 - Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU . The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.
