Hi all,
This is not specific to Poser 12, but can anyone tell me why there's such a long waiting time after I make a render when I select to return to the Preview screen?
In some of m scenes Poser just jumps right back from Render to Preview as soon as I click Preview, but in other scenes and set-ups it can take 30 seconds or longer.
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I've never got to the bottom of it...
Thanks if someone can shed some light

The question may seem dumb but have you activated a parameters that lets the system shut down the hard disk when not in use for some time?
Another possibility is that Poser is storing the resulting EXR files in a location whose access times are allocated by the system (synchronization, cleaning, lack of free space)

Many thanks for your ideas. I'll check those things and report back :D

Could be the texture cache too. If it has to reload the textures after the render it will take longer. Try increasing the size of the cache.

Sorry if I didn't thought to nerd's explanation: I had already experienced this long time ago, as Poser's default was too low.

Dies P_13 still have 'house-cleaning' issues with eg texture cache ??

How would anyone know since it hasn't been released yet?

If I had to guess, I would think of two, maybe three settings who can cause this behavior. First thing is the automatic save function in the Poser preferences. It might kick in by chance at the very moment the image is finished rendering. You mentioned that this behavior is not always present, therefore it could be a time bound process in Poser, like said automatic saving. Second suspect is the Nvidia filter in the Render Settings. Poser creates two images if this option is on. Maybe sometimes Poser needs more time to process this filter onto one of your images. No. 3 on my list is lack of RAM or a defective RAM Bar on the Mainboard or graphics card. This would mean that you would notice slowing down behavior on other software too. I would run some benchmark tests on the graphics card and Mainboard separately and look at the log files. If something wrong with parts of the hardware, it will show up.
I hope it's just a "wrong" setting. Keep us posted on this, it might be useful to others as well.

Thanks for your replies guys - I think it's less likely to a defective RAM fault as it's behaved like this on 2 separate PCs.
I did notice something interesting today though:
I just needed to make a quick render to test the placing of characters and objects so I dialled the render settings down to the 'Draft' level in the Auto-settings option in Firefly.
As expected, the render finished in mere seconds. And this time, when I selected the Preview tab, the view jumped instantly back to the preview pane with zero delay!
So the long delay between finishing a render and returning to Preview is being caused by one of my render settings.
BTW, to be clear about my problem: when the render is done, I can scroll around it, export it etc. - the delay only occurs when I click on the tab for the Preview pane...
