I have these ancient program I used to use all the time for Poser creation.

CorrectReference1_2_2
Cr2Editor151
DialCleaner v095
Morph Manager 4.0
MPE313beta3
phibuild
PLHBeta6
Pwizard
Uvmapper Pro 2.0m
UVMapper Professional
uvmapper026b
PozersLittleHelper-b6_1

Any body still use these? Are there any updates?
Any tips on how to replace them?
I'm used to the old way of making and loading morphs. Now it seems like full body morphs are the only way to go.

Is there a good tutorial that can bring me up to date on modern character creation and avoiding pitfalls like vertex order being destroyed?

Hi Joe,
for full or partial body morphes I use Mudbox.

The advantage of Mudbox is, that apart from morphs, you can subdivide your Figure/Geometry make all the changes that you might like and render out Displacement or Alphamaps -or just paint Bump-, Diffuse- and Secular maps directly on you model.

For Modeling and UV-unwraping you could use 3ds Max, or better Maya.

If you are looking for all of the things that I have mentioned above, but for free and very powerfull, than I would take Blender in consideration.

Unfortunately Blender, like all the above named Software has a steep learning curve. -on the other side there are tons of tutorials about in yourtube :-)

UV-Mapper and it's pro version are still downloadable and they still work.
But this of cause depends on your System..

Hope this helps a little.

I'm already deep into Blender training.
I was looking more for the technical ins an outs of modern Poser.

I can model figures from scratch. I just had some IRL problems that gave me 16 year Hiatus.
I'm trying to get back into the swing of things and recreate some things I lost.

Some of the wondrous tools crafted by PhilC are no longer available as he's mostly-retired and down-sized his offerings.

I was lucky enough to get his PZ3 editor, which may be the only practicable way to dismantle old PZ3s, extricate the components...

Especially when the referenced components are now in different folders to original...

I wish I could code, but my limit was reached with hand editing .OBJ to add vertex groups.

The only program from your list which I still use is UVMapper Pro, and I use it regularly, on nearly every modelling session. However to the best of my knowledge the author (Steve Cox) isn't around any more, and updates are unlikely. I've heard nothing from him for years.

I would like to be able to use EasyPose Underground again, but I've been unable to install it on my most recent PC. I think it needs a particular version of .NET framework, but I haven't found any details on that in the documentation. I haven't had the time to fully explore this though, it's one of those occasional projects that I revisit from time to time.

Another oldie that I still find useful (not on your list) is John Wind's Compose, which is a Java application and hence can work on any hardware which can support a Java runtime. Java is deprecated for web applications, but it's fine to use offline.

Talking of deprecation, Morph Manager is best avoided these days. It doesn't understand recent Poser file structures, meaning it's too easy to corrupt your files IMHO.

Version 4.0 of UVMapper Professional is coming, most likely next week.  I believe I have everything ready to go, but I'm going to be out of town for a few days and I want to wait to launch the new version until I'm back in case there are any issues.  Lots of new features like LSCM mapping, magic wand for selecting vertices, facets, edges and seams (it's really easy to split up the texture map into pieces now), plus lots of other tools.  I'm looking forward to hearing what people think of it!

Hi Steve, glad to see that rumours of your absence have been greatly exaggerated, and sorry for promulgating them. :) I'm looking forward to seeing what version 4 can do.

Out of interest Steve, how do you plan to announce the release of the new version? uvmapper.com is showing 'update in progress' at the moment, and has done for some days now.

Hi EnglishBob - thanks for the kind words.  I've just pushed the new version 4.0a live and re-enabled the website.  I'd love to hear your thoughts if you have the time.  All the best.

I'll try the demo and report back, by PM if that's ok rather than clutter this thread up any further. Although on the original topic of 'ancient', I think UVMapper Pro was the first 3D-related program I ever bought, in 2004. (I got Poser 3 off a cover disk, and won Poser 4 in a competition, to be clear! :)
