Is texture Alpha channel handling likely to be better in latest release of #12 and pending #13 ?

Some image formats set as 'diffuse' seem to get their Alpha channel automatically 'picked up' and applied to 'transparency'.

Some seem to get half-way there, the transparency is not set, but may clash with attempts to set manually.
Fix is to re-save 'Diffuse' without Alpha, apply this and Alpha separately...

IMHO, it would take a Bondware 'coder' to look at the relevant paths, report on which format does what, and why...

I ask because eg MMD PMX models call PNGs, auto-apply their Alpha channel as transparency.

For Poser, I'm used to pulling Alpha channels out using eg free Irfan View or, for exotica, XN View.
I'd feel very silly if reliable 'Auto-apply from Diffuse' facility had arrived in 'Cycles' without me noticing...

This is where you pull your alpha channel:

Thank you.

Poser 11.3 currently doing big CPU-only render (*), so Materials not available. I'll have a hunt for facility tomorrow.

D'uh, that, alone, almost justifies upgrade...

*) I'd a big render running on networked 'Box', looked at time and realised I could run a local render overnight. is currently ~3770 / 9216...

Again, thank you. And it is in my P_11.3, I'd simply missed it...

D'uh...

For the benefit of any-one else who's got lost thus in Cycles' maze of twisty little passages too-much alike:

In Material room (Advanced), right-click into open area to right of PoserSurface. Follow New Node, Cycles, Texture, left-click ImageTexture
Change Projection from Box to Flat. Click on Image field to browse to relevant RGB+Alpha Texture. Connect Color to Diffuse Color. Also, optionally, to Translucence_Color. Connect Alpha to Transparency. Also, optionally, to Bump. Dial to taste, render...
Take migraine meds...

Yes, a 'Gelatinous Blob', using an outer box with 'RachealMarie_in-the-flesh-seamless-tiles_74649' set's 'Flesh1 semi-transparent', which has an Alpha channel...

Why use the PoserSurface?  You'll be better off using the PhysicalSurface instead.

Yes, that works too, thank you...
