I am trying to setup the Superfly skin shader described in another thread here but when I try to add the nodes I can't find the Redfilter or Bump2Normal nodes anywhere in any of the menus or sub-menus. Do I need an add-on to get these or am I doing it wrong?
Also, I can't find a Color Map or Bump Map node but I can find an image_map node. Is this the same thing?
Y-Phil posted Thu, 13 April 2023 at 2:24 PM
The redfilter is in fact this one (right-clilck)
Bump to Normal:

They are renamed nodes to make sense, I gad to ask as well. Thanks for the details, YPhil!!

Color Map and Bump Map are just simple Image node. You have two: the classic:
And the Cycles-based:
The difference between the two are some parameters available in the Cycles version and not in the other. At the beginning, the classic one is easier to use.
You can change the label of a node by simply double-clicking on its title, so that you may enter what you want:
Abuse of Cycles nodes, not Double BigMac's...

Thank you for the explanation, Y-Phil. I've got it working on Vicky 4 and she's looking better now.
One minor problem. I click on Subsurface Radius, update the numbers as shown and press return, but if I click on it again to check the numbers they have gone back to how they were at the start. I've tried not pressing return but clicking somewhere else but it still ignores my changes. Is there some trick to updating this?
hborre posted Thu, 13 April 2023 at 7:41 PM
Return sets the values. Those values are just starters that work well for SSS. There are other parameters that will give different skin tones, especially when the light shines behind the character through the thinner mesh illustrated below.

Make sure you are entering all three values separated by commas before pressing enter. If you try to enter a single value, it won't know what to do with it and might throw it away.Thank you for the explanation, Y-Phil. I've got it working on Vicky 4 and she's looking better now.

You wanted to give them a fast response, filled with information?
You wanted to get to the meat of the matter?
Or given how tired you were, perhaps you were simply fried?

I was entering the three numbers but the key icon was highlighted, I must have activated it accidentally when trying to click on the values. I tried to switch this off by de-selecting animated from the context menu but it still wouldn't accept my changes. Then I created a new node and this worked OK.Make sure you are entering all three values separated by commas before pressing enter. If you try to enter a single value, it won't know what to do with it and might throw it away.Thank you for the explanation, Y-Phil. I've got it working on Vicky 4 and she's looking better now.

I'll do some more tests to try and figure out how this works. If I can't find a way to re-enable editing of the values I'll put a ticket in for it.

It should work perfectly fine. I have no problems working with that feature. Retaining and changing the values works as it should. Either hit 'Return' or 'Enter' on your keyboard.
