How do I edit an ASCII FBX as text ??
All too often, I get FBX files, some exported from Blender plug-ins, with missing texture calls or calls that are 'absolute' rather than 'relative'.
Not a problem if only a few but, if import to Poser spawns dozens of sub-rigs, each with a material that calls multiple texture maps, it can be a tad discouraging.
This absolute / relative issue often happens to OBJ+MTL exports, too, but I can sanitise those with Notepad (<50 kb) and Wordpad (>50 kb).
And they work...
FBX is a very different matter. For whatever reason, editing any ASCII FBX with either Notepad or Wordpad seems to create an invalid file.
eg I can do search/replace on the multiple texture calls routed deep, deeep into author's I: drive in a matter of seconds, but the saved file is 'broken'...
Any ideas to what is wrong ??

You can edit a ASCII FBX in Notepad++ really have to know what you are doing you can download for free from Autodesk this free tool Autodesk FBX Converter x64 2013 that can help solve some issues with FBX exported from Blender what I have found most recent is a this paid addon called Better Fbx Importer & Exporter that seems to resolve most of my FBX issue with FBX exports from Blender it and it also has a more efficient OBJ export tool as well you can find the addon in the Blender Market site I am sorry not allowed to post a direct link since they are similar vendor as Renderosity I would highly recommend your watch the tutorials by the Better Fbx Importer & Exporter creator to get the best results with using the tool. I hope this helps

Thank you.
I have FBX Converter 2013.3. It cannot handle some recent versions, but the Explorer tool clearly show when texture calls are missing or 'non-relative'.
I've never tried Notepad++, will investigate.
Why that should work, but neither Notepad nor Wordpad is interesting...
Again, thank you.
