little marks on l'homie's face (not that I see any on l'femme's face) what are they called, and what do they do, and how do I use them?

This question was answered in a different post you created. Those are control chips for facial expressions. You can turn those here:
Set the Control Handles value to 0.
ATM, I would not recommend experimenting with them until you gain further mastery of Poser first.

The La Femme / La Homme 'Face Control' chips, aka control handles. They can be turned off in Preview, which may be useful for real-time comics production. The "Hide > Control Handle < Show" dial will make them vanish.
