Hello
I have a rather large library...but, I need a good, details, realistic pale skin texture. Not a “too smooth” texture. But one that has the faint tracing of veins, good actual skin texture, etc.
I have loads that the thumbnails look good…then in render, with a library of lights and homemade lights all look...fake. Too smooth as if they were ran through an instagram filter, etc. (I also have tried tiddling the gamma, different sss settings, etc)
SO, with that said.
What would YOU, the reader, suggest as a good pale texture?

I've had the same struggle, trying loads of skin textures that seemed promising but were either not pale enough or washed out. Maybe one of RawArts albino characters?

Instead of looking for a good pale perfect texture consider looking for the things that you want to see in the final render like the faint tracing of veins, https://www.daz3d.com/add-some-veins-hd-for-genesis-9, https://www.daz3d.com/add-some-veins-hd-for-genesis-8, https://www.renderosity.com/marketplace/products/117529/lie-eye-veins-and-bleeds-for-genesis-3-female, https://www.renderosity.com/marketplace/products/148631/twizted-skin-details-for-genesis-81, https://www.renderosity.com/marketplace/products/119145/twizted-anatomical-details-skin-mr, https://www.renderosity.com/marketplace/products/125214/freckled-skin-g8-mr, https://www.renderosity.com/marketplace/products/162188/freckled-skin-mr-for-genesis-9, https://www.renderosity.com/marketplace/products/114308/skintastic-skin-mr-freckles-g3f, https://www.daz3d.com/skin-detailer-for-genesis-9-merchant-resource, look for moles, pimples, blemishes, etc. You can also use Photoshop brushes to help you achieve the effects you want.

I have vein sets, I have skin sets(pbr, skin manager, skin effects, etc) I have all sorts. But what I need is a good pale skin texture. Not one that is washed out, not one that is a tan that is lightened to make it pale. Pale skin has its own look to it. The vein overlays do not look like what I need. They do not look right as they are on overlay.Instead of looking for a good pale perfect texture consider looking for the things that you want to see in the final render like the faint tracing of veins, https://www.daz3d.com/add-some-veins-hd-for-genesis-9, https://www.daz3d.com/add-some-veins-hd-for-genesis-8, https://www.renderosity.com/marketplace/products/117529/lie-eye-veins-and-bleeds-for-genesis-3-female, https://www.renderosity.com/marketplace/products/148631/twizted-skin-details-for-genesis-81, https://www.renderosity.com/marketplace/products/119145/twizted-anatomical-details-skin-mr, https://www.renderosity.com/marketplace/products/125214/freckled-skin-g8-mr, https://www.renderosity.com/marketplace/products/162188/freckled-skin-mr-for-genesis-9, https://www.renderosity.com/marketplace/products/114308/skintastic-skin-mr-freckles-g3f, https://www.daz3d.com/skin-detailer-for-genesis-9-merchant-resource, look for moles, pimples, blemishes, etc. You can also use Photoshop brushes to help you achieve the effects you want.

Type Pale Skin in the search boxes and see if you see anything that suits you. Everyone has a different opinion about what a "good pale skin is"
rto3d posted Tue, 09 July 2024 at 11:20 PM
go with Elanor (CCrow) and settings in case this is what you are looking for:

.. and double check with texture compression (render settings) to compete 'washed out' render results

I...did that. Its exactly why I am asking for opinions of people that may have actual experience with different pale skin packages. As simply looking at a promo shot doesnt tell me the quality. Those that use the skin packages can give an opinion based on varied lightings, render settings, etc.Type Pale Skin in the search boxes and see if you see anything that suits you. I should have stated(its my fault for not doing so) Its for gen8. I have plenty of stuff for g9 but her underarms drive me nuts.go with Elanor (CCrow) and settings in case this is what you are looking for:
Just like you cant take a Caucasians texture and simply darken it to make it ethnic.
I have twiddled with gamma to make it appear lighter. I have twiddled with render settings. Its not doing what I need.
I am very familiar with what pale skin looks like. I am dang near ghost white. Simply washing it out, doesnt work.
There is a particular luminance, translucency that comes with it.
I am utterly confused why this seems so controversial.
I mean, not being funny, but I did look in several marketplaces. I have googled. I have tried different render settings. I am not looking for render settings. I am looking for an actual texture that is pale. I have even tried the Asian textures, as they tend to be a particular type of pale.
Simply looking at a promo shot doesnt give you the context if the texture works in "real world" if you will. That was why I am asking for peoples opinion as to their actual experience with different packages.
Its not a hard concept.
As I cant "test drive" a package, its logical to ask people who may HAVE used various texture packages how well they work, how they look, etc.

Subsurface Scatter will determine the translucent appearance that you are trying to achieve. The measurable distance should be increased, but too high a value will increase the luminance of the skin texture, making it appear unrealistically waxy. Transmittance color and SSS color will need to be adjusted as well.

I think it would help us a great deal if you provided an image of what you are trying to achieve.
Some asian skin reminds me of the rice paper flour so naturally I think of them as pale skinned.

Sadly any skin shader for DAZ Studio is way too dark.
Go download "Venitian Sunrise HDRI" from the Poly Haven website for free and use it as a reference.
You can see a lot of people in the background in it. Set all render settings to default and adjust your skin shader to match those people's skin color.

Aye. I have worked with it to try and get that particular translucence that pale skin has. Think of the peaches and cream, ginger-red head tone.Subsurface Scatter will determine the translucent appearance that you are trying to achieve. The measurable distance should be increased, but too high a value will increase the luminance of the skin texture, making it appear unrealistically waxy. Transmittance color and SSS color will need to be adjusted as well.
The one that has a faint, often blotchiness to it. A subtle luminance.

i say you take a skin texture that is pretty close and then modify it in photoshop. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qM9amZJUIok
google skin tones palette and then use the video above to match the skin tone, load all the textures into the same photoshop file and then save each texture individually to avoid any slight variation that would result in a seemline along the texture. the nipples and the lips might require some extra color correction

In my opinion Ceridwen is a perfectly pale skin. But that is just my opinion. Love working with her. Tami has a redish tint or at least on my screen.

@DarkElegance please share some of the names of the characters that you have used that are pale skin, but still fall short of your expectations. If we have those characters we can compare them.
DarkElegance posted Sat, 13 July 2024 at 10:48 PM
I think Ceridwen may do it. I also like her options but again, the skin has a clay light look. I will have to try and work with the settings. But she looks good. I also like her face shape.Tasha 8 (pale version) may be too pallid for your brief.
Saiyaness made Tarni and Ceridwen.
