I looked in the Manual but have not found an answer to this basic question, so run risk of ridicule by asking here:
I have an actor I named "Will", but I find it difficult to find hair, expressions, etc. for him unless I know his parent figure: did I make him from lhomme or from Rex or Paul?
how do I determine his "real;" source name?
thanks,
don

This is a feature that Poser lacks. If a figure is modified and then sent back to the library they loose their identity. Or, at least their roots. Those of us who have been doing Poser for ages can recognize most figures. That's cheating.
Here's a couple of DNA tests for figures to determine their actual identity.
Materials.
1. In the Material Room,
2. Use the eye dropper tool.
3. Pick the figure's skin.
4. On the edit tab, find the figure's textures.
5. You may need to use the show/hide buttons to see the preview thumbnail and settings for the texture.
6. Click the name to open the Texture Manager
7. Ah ha! It must be LaFemme!
Most of the time this will reveal the truth. But, if the figure has been re-skinned with custom textures this won't answer the question. So, the next way is to check their geometry files.
List the files in use:
1. From the Top Menu choose Scripts > PrintInfo > ListFiles
2. One of the geometry files will be your figure's. That may also reveal their origin.
Just Ask
The last way is to post a screen shot of the figure displayed in Wireframe view. Somebody will likely recognize the topology of the figure.
This is Will by the way. Originally included with Poser 5. If you really are using will he's one of the children. There's not a lot of content mage for him.

WOW! thanks, nerd, so he's a kid; but he looks fine as a teen. Not much flexibility for he, tho.

You could morph him into a teen by scaling particular body parts, but getting the proportions right and having the clothing fit is tricky.

I named that actor will it was not his original source figure.

Zero out the morphs on the figure and post an image and we'll see if we can help you figure out who he is. Maybe in the future, if you save a morphed character with a new name, name him Will-(original name). Then you don't have to worry about forgetting.
