Subject: saving FBX as CR2 ?

Hello,

  I have newbie question.
I have a character I bought in FBX format. It comes with clothes, materials and rigging, and I can see Poser can import it without problems, including the materials and rigging. I can even get rid easily of the clothes, but the character is built as parts, body, head, horns (is a kind of devil), teeth and eyes.

Can someone give me a pointer on how to select all the parts and save them as one CR2 character with the rigging and materials ? I can select each part, but I cannot find a way to select all the parts and then save them as one CR2 character.

Sorry if it is a dumb question for a moderately good user of Poser, but as I wrote, I completely new to Poser.

Thank you in advance for your help !

P.S. In case you wonder why not trying to use the fbx, from one side, it is still more practical for me to have in "native" format, from the other, I plan to use it also with another software, and there, the CR2 format is simpler to get in and use.

Not possible to do it in poser, you will need to merge all the parts in Blender or another application. Still if your model is wearing clothes you keep these separate, you will have to rebuild the hierarchy for a correct functionality, rescale for the correct Poser dimension then turn -90 degrees on z. you also have to make sure that the Doubles are merged else you will have cuts on the merged parts.

This would be the basic next to skinning corrections and adjusting the rotation axis, in most cases you will also have to quad the mesh, subdivide and smooth it out, remove ghost bones, eventually sap skinned parts from one bone to another. Comes  to it if you quad the mesh and make a higher subdivision you will have to recalculate the skinning influences for to have correct bending

At this point you will probably already have the experience to fully create your own models for Poser or Daz Studio,

I've never dealt with importing an fbx item, so take this with a grain of salt.

You can add a primitive like a box to your scene. Go into the setup room and add a bone, any bone. When you go back to the pose room, that box is now a figure. Make it transparent. Then parent your fbx props to the transparent box figure. That way, you can add the transparent box figure to your character library as a cr2.

I have no idea what gets saved rigging-wise, so, like I said, take this with a grain of salt, but this would save the parts in a cr2. I don't know how usable it would be. Versum knows better.

Make a grouping .. open hierarchy editor, select parts in hierarchy editer, drag/parent everything to group,  save group to library.

To save all the parts of your FBX character as a single CR2 file in Poser, you will first need to merge the parts in a 3D application like Blender. Once this is done, you can import the merged model back into Poser, and make sure it is not corrupted.

Saving an FBX file as a CR2 in Poser has its challenges and effectively creating a character model requires a lot of cohesion for use in Poser.
