Hello, I'm writing to ask for your help. Some time ago I used two programs for my work: Poser 5 and Daz Studio. After many years I would like to start using again at least one of the two programs. I tried with the Daz Studio but it's really very complex and I'm not completely convinced of the final result. Having kept the old version of Poser 5 and I tried to install it on Windows 11. Unfortunately, at the star, it gives me a problem of driver not found and it doesn't start. I was really good with that software and being able to use it again would make me feel good. Can someone help me? Does anyone know how I can solve this problem. Thank you.

Maybe It is
the flash Player, Poser needed the player for the content library. (I do not
know how it was for “Poser 5”) My first Poser was “Poser 6”. For my Poser 14
the solution was the link below.
How to fix your Runtime now that
Adobe Flash has reached end of life - Poser Software
By the way,
Studio isn’t as complex as it shows in the first view, it’s pretty straight forward
like poser but you need a few days to adapt to the interface.

IIRC, Adobe Flash Player wasn't introduced until later, when the Pro versions were released. There's possible compatibility issues between software and hardware which prevent Poser 5 from running properly. You could set Windows 11 compatibility to an earlier version (Windows 7); however, I am not aware of anyone running Poser any earlier than version 7.

Can't remember the earliest version that used Flash for the library. Either Poser 7 or 8 if I recall.
But take note ... the content you use in Poser will also be a factor in the version you install.
Poser 5 was released in 2003. It's the first version that used Firefly. About the only content that it will support is that furnished with Poser itself, or with Victoria 4 generation from DAZ.
Poser 7, also mentioned above, was released in 2006. It supports the G2 figures released by eFrontier, like Simon, Sydney, James, Jessi, etc (NOT the Genesis 2 figures relerased by DAZ). So as far as DAZ content goes you're still limited to V4 and that generation.
Poser 9 and Poser Pro 2012 are the first versions that support weight mapped figures as well as subsurface scattering. Weight mapping was not as robust as in later versions.
Poser 10 and Pro 2014 first versions to have the fitting room which allows you to convert clothing from one figure to another.
Poser 11.3 and later are owned by Bondware.
What do you have for a video card? That would factor in to which version you can use as well.

I still have Poser 5 on my computer. I didn't even realize it until today. I wasn't able to get it to work even with different. I only have Windows 10 but I doubt 11 is more backwards than 10.
Poser 8 was the first with Flash. I also still had Poser 7 on my machine until recently.

Hello and thank you all for your answers. I will try to use your advice and then I will write you the results. First I wanted to try to explain the reason for Poser 5. The reason is simple: it is a software that I own and that I have used; it is not as complex as DAZStudio allowing me to start creating images again without having to learn tons of tutorials or manuals. I don't have other newer versions of the Poser and I don't know if it's possible to download them and if they are free or paid and what their cost can be.

I've tried to install Poser 5 in a virtualbox with Windows XP Pro Service Pack 3 as an operating system and I got the same error.

The only versions of Poser available now are Poser 13 and Poser 13 upgrade (which only upgrades from 11 or 12)
There are no free versions of Poser.

I don't know for Poser5 but I had tested this on my old PC (died 2 months ago): an installed Poser6 folder can be copied and run from any new location.

you might have to Install the old IE 10 or 11 in order to make it work .

make sure you have SR4 update Installed. Could also be a corrupt installer the original comes in a Autorun folder, not just the exe
Latest release is 5.0.4.325 latest content update is SR3
on my side all versions from P4 - 13 work like a charm on win 10
