could you put in an update on who has what card(s) and what is still available? I'd like to try the hanged man, if it's not taken.

I'm pretty sure that the Hanged Man isn't taken yet.:o) At least noone that I saw has taken it yet. I think...maybe...boy was that a long thread. LOL!

Okee dokee, Shadowcat, the Hanged Man is yours. Looks like all we have available now is the "traditional" version of Judgement (the next to last card). Any takers? Let's tackle this round before we move on to the suits . Here's the final tally: --------------------------------------------------- The Fool - Picnic (you do nice male characters!) The Magician - Wizzard (for obvious reasons ..hehehe) The High Priestess - Dreamspinner The Empress - lynde The Emperor - Poppi (your Egyptian series was the deciding factor here) The Hierophant - Dmtyler The Lovers - Ironbear Strength -GhostOfMacbeth The Hermit - Lorraine The Wheel of Fortune - Xena Justice - Szeven The Hanged Man - Shadowcat Death - TheWolfWithin Temperance - Lalverson The Devil - Chas The Tower - Dolly The Star - Traveler The Moon - AprilYSH (a challenge for you, but you have some gorgeous watery images, I thought it would fit!) The Sun - Morris Judgement - The traditional version of Judgement is still open. Ironbear MAY work up an alternate "Rejuvenation" card for an alternate deck. The World - nikitacreed (see http://www.artoftarot.com/po.htm for examples) IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT THE SYMBOLS THAT ARE REQUIRED FOR YOUR CARD, PLEASE POST A MESSAGE. ONE OF THE "EXPERTS" WILL GUIDE YOU IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION. 8-) ------------------------------------------------------------- THE FOLLOWING WILL BE AVAILABLE AT MORPH WORLD http://morphs.bbay.com/ars/index.html WHEN COMPLETED: Card Backgrounds and Borders - Dreamspinner and Dolly Props for Wands, Cups, Swords, and Pentacles - Traveler I think that about sums up all of those other 119 messages in the other thread Denise

I would like to know what number for "the World" I need to use. On my deck it is XXI. I just want to clarify the numbering system for it. As far as description, I think that what has been posted at Dee's site is plenty enough information for us to work with. I intend to go with my interpretation of the card, not someone elses. Why duplicate the meaning or images from another card set? I thought this was supposed to be our card project....not a copy of other cards.:o If I am misunderstanding all this...I apologize, but "The World (The Universe)" will be done as I see it. If that means it won't be included in the deck...so be it.
nikitacreed posted Sat, 19 May 2001 at 10:12 PM
I think I misunderstood this whole thing. It isn't descriptions but symbols and numbers right? I'm confused now...LMAO!
Chas posted Sat, 19 May 2001 at 10:18 PM
"Experts?" Yikes. The ideas are just a "take it or leave it" kind of a thing. If you want them, they're there -- if you're inspired differently, go with it! :) The World / Universe is #21. It looks like #22 above, but The Fool is #0.

21...then it is XXI. Thank you for the clarification. One last question. Are we numbering with Roman Numerals or just numbers?
nikitacreed posted Sat, 19 May 2001 at 10:36 PM
Oh...also...are we going to have a particular font for the numbers and names of the cards? Seems that we should to have more uniformity. That's my last question...I think. LOL!
DCArt posted Sat, 19 May 2001 at 10:46 PM
nikita, I was wondering about that myself ... it's pretty much a given that everyone has the Arial font, but that might be kind of boring 8-) The unfortunate part is that everyone would probably need the same font installed on their machine, and I don't think you can distribute fonts. One solution might be to assign one person to add the text to all of them? Dee

ALL comments welcome on this, let's make this a community choice. 8-) They are BOTH lovely! On the first one, I was immediately attracted to the stars that hover over the border lines. It adds a very nice quality to the border. 8-) I prefer the dark rose inner border on the second one - it's a bit more subtle and draws your eye inward to the center more. Do you think the number and name labels should be moved over the black and rose area so that the crystal ball part is seen totally?
DCArt posted Sat, 19 May 2001 at 11:29 PM
oops, noticed another thing ... the image size you have is 597 x 841. We will want the cards to be 413 x 713 as a final size ... and I was thinking that we'd start off with a double size image. Can we rescale your final result to 826 by 1426 (which is double the 413 x 713?) Dee

Treat the elliptical area however you want. Some ideas that come to mind: 1) Import the card background into Poser and render your scene over it. If, for example, you want to REALLY focus in on your character, feel free to have head, arms, legs, other elements such as the cups, wands, etc, extend outside the elliptical area. Will add some asymmetry to the card. 2) Render your scene totally in Poser, and then use Photoshop to cut and paste over the card background layer so that your scene fits within the layer. Use a "Multiple" blend or a "transparent" blend, if you like, to bring some of the swirliness of the crystal ball into your image ... might give the appearance that your scene is being displayed in the crystal ball. 8-) 3) Whatever else you come up with, is cool with me 8-) Denise

I was just sitting here thinking how NICE it is to see everyone pulling together on this. The enthusiasm is really nice to see. I also see people willing to try new things, which is the whole reason projects like this are so much fun to do. And that was the whole point of my presenting such a challenging idea ... the symbolism of tarot cards adds a lot of dimension to an art project, and really gets ideas flowing. But, most importantly, I think the BIGGEST part of the credit for this enthusiasm is due to TheWolfWithin, who started this whole card concept in the first place. Everyone had SO much fun with his playing card project that I think we ALL wanted to see and do more. 8-) So, Wolf, thanks for taking the initiative to band everyone together. My hats off to you! Denise

I really wish that we could widen the card a bit to give folks a bit more space to work with, just a thought. Anyways the above pic IS 826X1426, if ya'll wanted to know. Verdie of Dreamspinner
DCArt posted Sun, 20 May 2001 at 1:34 AM
Verdie ... to explain how I came up with the size thing ... when I started getting questions about what size to make the images, I looked at various tarot card decks to try to figure out what "typical" card sizes were. It seemed that many of them ran at about 2-3/4 inches wide by 4-3/4 inches high. So, I multiplied that by 150 (for printing at 150 DPI), and came up with the 413 x 713 figure. I figured those dimensions would be equivalent to "real" cards. If folks would rather go with something wider, that would be fine with me ... I'm sure there are lots of "non standard" decks out there as well. If you would all rather go with the original proportions of the crystal ball image, speak now. 8-) Denise
Dreamspinner posted Sun, 20 May 2001 at 1:41 AM
I rather like it almost the way that it is, gee I don't know, but would LOVE to see one with something beautiful in the middle! Verdie who is a Libra who can never make up her mind. LOL
DCArt posted Sun, 20 May 2001 at 2:32 AM
Hmmm ... OK, I guess I'll make a decision on the size then, if you all don't mind. In earlier messages (in that VERY long page ... hehehe) we talked about the possibility of printing the cards up and selling them in the Renderosity store for community support. That brought up the concern of limiting the props that folks could use in the scenes, because some of them are not for commercial use, or you'd have to obtain special permission. So, let's just make the cards for the sake of art and creativity. In that case, I suppose we can go with any size we want ... so, stick with the original proportions (with accomodations for the border if necessary), but maybe just scale it up twice the size so that people can work on a larger render initially. Dee
nikitacreed posted Sun, 20 May 2001 at 2:56 AM
I have to start over again. As lovely as it is, the background doesn't fit with any of the ideas that I had. I mistakenly thought that we were just doing a border.:o( I will come up with something new. I hope we have awhile to turn these out, because my ideas are shot. LOL! Dee...I will put the font on the images. We just need to pick one. Suggestions? My suggestions are VTC Goblin Hand and Morpheus. But I am not attached to them...just can't seem to find anything else. LMAO!
Dreamspinner posted Sun, 20 May 2001 at 3:21 AM
Okay, Dee considering that maybe if we are really lucky and can get this set printed up the size is just right then. S I have no particular preference as to the Font, so I'll go with whatever evry one else wants. Verdie
DCArt posted Sun, 20 May 2001 at 3:23 AM
nikita ... before you restart, hold off. There may be other people who would prefer a solid background as well. I thought having a graphic background would be an alternative for the folks that didn't know how to build a scene, but who wanted something besides a flat color for the backs. So, wait until we finalize the border design. I'm thinking as long as we all use the same border, we can provide continuity in that way. I hate to see folks restart lots of hard work because colors don't work right. This is about choices, and I want to try to make it as easy as possible for everyone 8-) I am not sure what the "Morpheus" font looks like, but I do like the name, as I associate it with dreams, and the movie "The Matrix" (my all time favorite sci fi movie). 8-) Dee
DCArt posted Sun, 20 May 2001 at 3:24 AM
Verdie, just to verify what I meant by "go with the original size", I meant the size that your original image was in ... of course, if adding/removing the border changes those proportions, do what you have to. 8-) Denise

Dolly, it looks wonderful ... however, there is one small point. Last night, amidst all the confusion of which aspect ratio we were going with, I think it was finally decided that we would go with the wider version because it would offer more room to put the picture in. (This is the wider version that Verdie has been posting her pics into in message numbers 68, 70, and 75 above). So when I prepared the Photoshop versions, I used that aspect ratio ... the spheres in your border are now back to their round original shape as a result, and I think it looks better overall because the aspects aren't disproportional. I have uploaded the PSD, BMP and TIF files to Traveler, and hopefully they will be posted soon. These files are the final size (600 wide by 800 high). Now I'm about to make the larger double-sized version in JPG format (1200 x 1600) - double-sized versions in PSD, BMP, and TIF were WAY too big for download. 8-) Dee
