This henge/stone circle is my first complete Poser landscape- it is fully customisable. Is anyone interested enough to advise me on how and where to post it? The zipped PZ3 and textures is about 15 megs and I have no website.

Just post it here at Renderosity under the Free Stuff section. Or, just send it to me 'cause I really would love to have it.

That looks fantastic! Please make it available soon in Freestuff.

Wow! Interesting!! Even a hole stone for wiggling through or making oaths. Ditch and dike and avenue and outlying stone and everything. I like. Nice textures, too. ... and I certainly hope that you find a place to host it. Carolly

Did you try www.freedrive.com ? Or Geocities? This looks pretty damn good to me! Great job! :o)

After such encouraging comments I will definately find a host and post it on Freestuff. Thanks People. As a reward, here is a close-up of the bump-mapped altar stone.

I hope so! I did a pen and ink illo several years ago with "cup & ring" symbols, among others, all over the standing stones. It will be fun recreating it in 3D. :) Carolly

Hairybiker posted Thu, 31 May 2001 at 7:12 PM

Absolutely, Hauksdottir! We have a standing stone area not far from where I live. The ring and spiral symbols were very prominent there. Almost as if they were part of te burial ceremony (stupid thing to say!! OF course they were!!). It's called NewGrange (some UK or Irish members might know what I'm on about!). NewGrange has a hill formation, anfd I went there while still in High School to take stone rubbings for a project. The whole area was just one great atmosphere of tranquility, the locals were so friendly, and the local rangers were very helpful/informative. I wish more of ythe Irish natives were that friendly!! :o) - Hairy

chrisjol posted Fri, 01 June 2001 at 4:25 AM

The symbols on the Altar stone are rough copies of: The passage at Newgrange. The Stone Circle at Cauldside Burn, Scotland. The Tree of Life stone (Snowden Moor), Swastika stone and Panorama stone (Ilkley Moor), standing stone(Baildon Moor), all in Yorkshire, England. Still trying to arrange posting but the problem is the size of the files. Even if I rigged up a temporary Homepage, which would take me eons, my server wouldn't host such large files. Chris

Hairybiker posted Fri, 01 June 2001 at 9:22 AM

What about breaking it down into separate parts, Chrisjol? For example, individual stones, a texture pack, etc...?

chrisjol posted Fri, 01 June 2001 at 10:05 AM

Hairybiker, could do that, the base packs down to 1.5 meg. and the stones are small individually. But .....the main texture map is almost 6 megs. as a JPG. Any smaller and resolution close up would be useless. I'm trying local business contacts to see if anyone can squeeze it in but no luck so far. If someone in the UK could host it, I could send it on cd. Chris

Have opened an i-drive account, waiting for validation, then should be able to upload the zip Chris

We will cross our fingers, hoping. That is a monumental (pun intended) piece of work, and you seem to have a waiting list of anticipatory artists. I'm familiar with NewGrange, and several other sites, but only from photographs. Someday I'll get to travel. Chrisjol, if you send me a snail mail address, I'll try to send you a couple of art prints in return for this. hauksdottir@earthlink.net Thanks, Carolly

Looks like a nice day today. I'll take my motorbike up to NewGrange this afternoon if I get a chance and take a few photos of the place. Might be nice for peeps to see just how awesome the place is, and what it is about the place that inspired ya, Chris... :o) Hauksdottir - YEAH! Come see the sights (and sites)! It's a beautiful country apart from the occasional restless native. :o)

chrisjol posted Sat, 02 June 2001 at 4:14 AM

Try Avebury folks, a whole village inside a Henge Monument. Talk about immersed in the past...... I might try a chambered cairn next, perhaps based on Weylands Smithy on the Ridgeway. Chris

Hairybiker posted Sat, 02 June 2001 at 6:40 AM

Chamber cairn sounds like a plan! I've the figures and an idea that could use one... ;o)

hauksdottir posted Sat, 02 June 2001 at 4:31 PM

Chambered cairns? I'd like to visit Maes Howe, Avebury, The Isle of Lewis, Rosaringe... and peek at the submerged rings (I'm blanking on their names, 2 of them in a bay on the north coast of France which inspired Debussy's Engulfed Cathedral). Everybody else can fight the crowds in the museums, when I travel to Europe it will be with a nice sturdy pair of walking shoes and a camera! Restless natives? Making those running shoes. Carolly
