i live in new zealand and have been told by my technican that "corel byrce 5 hybrid" is for sale here, is this possible? it is on the latest price list he got from a supplier,

Looks very nice, but I suspect it could mostly be done in Bryce 4 as well; perhaps not so easily. My jaw's not dropping yet. I accept you're under non-disclosure, but I cannot comprehend why Corel is being so secretive.
Allen9 posted Wed, 06 June 2001 at 11:11 AM
I agree about the secrecy. Every other software package upgrade I've ever heard of was advertised well in advance of release by the manufacturer, previews and lists of new features were posted, etc. etc. What gives with Corel? Do they expect everyone to buy the new package sight unseen and with NO information about it available? If that's their plan, they are making a BIG mistake.

Information about the specifics of B5 will surely be released once the beta period is over and the feature set is finalized. I would guess they don't want to get into a situation where they hype a feature and then it doesn't make it into the final. Look carefully at Clay's gallery: there is some stuff there that's quite obviously new.

have to disagree flickerstreak .. Clay was good enough to do most of that in Bryce 4 S So it isn't obvious what some of the new stuff is

There's some things in the skies that look slightly different, but I gotta agree: not much here that can't be done in 4. Supposedly 5 is being released in about a month... with no details... and my onw inquiry to Corel was sent back as "undeliverable", which sure doesn't make me feel all that confident.

I also have to agree that what is shown in the renders are not showing anything that can not be done in bryce 4. I was looking for a hint of radiosity, or some other advanced algorythm. If all it will do is let you create trees, Well there are a bunch of SW oth there that can generate trees. The rest so far exhibits no real improvements. at most they may have improved the ability of applying textures but as far as images that can be easily distinguished from the current version of bryce, no cigar. I noticed that it still makes triangulsr spiky terrains as noticable on the mountain and cliff faces.
pnevai posted Thu, 07 June 2001 at 12:32 AM
I mean you can get better terrain generation out of the box with terragen. And that product is still free. Even the default terragen terrains blow you away with the quality of the auto generated fractal terrains. Just go and check out the terragen gallery here.
