Carrara 1.1 PC In the vertex modler the boolean subtraction menu item stays greyed out, but union and intersection are working. Am I doing somthing wrong?

that solution is not workinging my copy of Carrara Studio version 1.1.. Ie : select objects, press CTRL & ALT while clicking a single dot of a vertex to indicate what object is to stay...
