Here's the map. Just let me know if you like it and want me to do a few more. Liz (Okay, texture too big to upload. E-mail me if you want it.)

Hey Terri, you're famous, your Cring has a Dreamspinner texture! :) Very cool, Liz! Regards- Lemurtek

Wow, that's really cool. A Dreamspinner texture. Now I feel like I've hit the big-time. Dreamspinner, the texture looks great, and I love what you've done with the eyes. If you want to put the texture in free stuff, I could store it at my web site. I'm trying to encourage as many people as possible to do textures, because it's not really my strong suit. My brother is working on one for me, but I'm not sure when he'll have it done. I was supposed to wait until it was finished, but I got too excited to see what everyone would think (I guess patience isn't my strong suit, either). --Terri

Terri, shoot me an e-mail so I can get you in my address book, and I'll send the texture. Tried to upload it but it's 400k and Renderosity would only allow a 200k upload. (darn). We've moved our Download section of Dreamspinner to A1Host, but I haven't figured out yet how to get into the server yet. (sorry web challenged and the builder of my site, wonderful Mr. Viomar is in the process of moving). So, yes, I'd be happy for you to host the texture. Do you have any suggestions for colors? Also, do you think you could make some morphs for the tongue so it can stick out? And the female version should have big eyelashes.... This is a wonderful little alien thing! Second I saw it in the free stuff, I said, "oh, got to play with that!" Liz

Dreamspinner, I'll email you when I get home tonight. Or you can use tdwillis@earthlink.net, if you want to add that to your address book manually. I haven't done any morphs for the tounge, but I did give it five parts so it could be posed. If you scale parts Tongue 2 through Tongue 5 in the z direction (I'd probably leave the base of the tongue, Tongue1, alone), you can make the tongue stick out. Rotate on the x and y axis to curve it. It has been suggested that since Cring does not have arms, the tongue might be employed in their version of Martial Arts. Which would probably mean their version of Jackie Chan is really, really popular with the ladies. I haven't figured out how to do morphs that involved more than one body part yet, but I'll look into it doing some for the tongue as a whole, and probably the neck as well. I'll have to give some think time to eyelashes, as I'm not sure how they would work with the eyelid morphs. Good suggestion, I'll let you know what I come up with. I also want to do some mouth morphs, as the way it opens seems a bit awkward to me. As far as colors go, I tend to make the females less brightly colored than the males, as is often the case with Earth species. And before you guys get all puffed up about that, keep in mind that the reason that females and juveniles are camoflauged is that they are more essential for the survival of the species, while the guys have to compete for the babes. So there. See, a brightly colored male is more of a target for predators. But bright colors are also an indicator that one is free from parasites, and healthier in general. So a brightly colored dude is a good mating prospect because not only is he healthy, he's managed to avoid being gobbled up by predators in spite of being a big ol' target. (Bright colors can also be an indicator that one taste really bad, or is poisoness, so one could go that way, too). My idea is that developing one's bright colors would be one of the big "coming of age" thigns for teenage male Cring. Also, litst suggested that it's the guys who wear lipstick, on their world. These are just some random thoughts/suggestions. Of course, people can design the textures however they like; I'm just happy people are wanting to use the model. My own textures tend to be on the cartoony side, but I think this guy would work with more "realistic" styles. I think I would look at lizards and fish for ideas. Or octopi... some species actually send signals to each other via color, like some chameleons do. Sorry, didn't mean to ramble on so long. It's just that this is my big 3D "debut" and I'm still pretty excited about it. Everyone has been so nice and encouraging, this has been a real blast. --Terri

Hi there, Verdie of Dreamspinner here. How do you tell the difference between the male and the female as they both look the same? How about adding nice big Eyelashes to the Female? Just a suggestion, Terri. I think they are really CUTE too and can't wait to grab a copy off of Liz's Computer!! he-he Verdie of Dreamspinner (Liz's Big Sis)

twillis posted Thu, 21 June 2001 at 6:17 PM

True, as I am actually quite lazy, the females are basically the same thing, only 90% smaller, except I left the eyes big. Otherwise it's all in the textures. But hey, that way I can get away with just one set of obj files. Look at it this way, maybe Cring would have trouble telling male and female humans apart, seeing as we're all just various shades of brown, right? Anyhow, I'm thinking about the best way to add eyelashes. I have to test it to see how they would work with the eyelid morphs I made. I'd like to do it as a smart prop, so people could have the option of using them or not. So I'll have to see if that works. Thanks for the suggestions, it nice to know people are having some fun with my little alien/monster thing. --Terri

Oh, that's too funny. She looks just like a disapproving mom. Ha!

Made another texture for our cutie alien. Hope you like it. Twillis, it and the thumbnail will be coming by e-mail soon. Liz Pope Dreamspinner Inc.

twillis posted Sat, 23 June 2001 at 9:11 PM

Do you want me to put them in freestuff, or do you just want me to send you the link, so you can?

Dreamspinner posted Sat, 23 June 2001 at 9:15 PM

Either/or. I need to put my name and contact info on the Texture map. I've noticed that a few people have downloaded the figure and the first map. I think you've got a popular little alien guy! Any ideas for colors? Liz Pope Dreamspinner Inc.

twillis posted Sat, 23 June 2001 at 9:18 PM

I'll just sent you the link, and you can post it, that way it'll have your name on it. Wouldn't be right, my name on a Texture! The thought of me doing a texture is Too Scary.

Dreamspinner posted Sat, 23 June 2001 at 9:21 PM

Oh, not half as scary as trying to model! I can at least do some sort of morphing using Amorphium, but real modeling, like you're Cring....nope, that's scary to me! I determined though when I first came into Poser and got all this wonderful help from people and free downloads that I'd find a way to give back to the community in some way and so taught myself how to use Paintshop (and a little Photoshop). My dream, deary dai, is to team up with a modeler..... Liz Pope Dreamspinner Inc.

That's one thing that I really like about this place, and 3D modeling in general. Everyone has an opportunity to find their niche. And this place is such a great way to combine efforts. I've discovered I really like this modeling stuff, and making characters. Figuring out how they should move. I think it's the engineer in me (my background is engineering/drafting). I think I have an idea for some CringWorld animals, so Junior up there can have a pet if he wants. Suggestions, of course, are always welcome. --Terri
