This is a really fascinating issue. For about 10 years Aladdin are releasing new improved StuffIt versions, and people shuffled their feet to get new free versions as soon as possible. Until last year (!) when version 5 came out. Suddenly some magazines issued warnings to be CAREFUL, because some users living at the backside of nowhere might not have it, and it'll be better to stick to version 4 for "some time". Everyone did. As a result, no one bothered to get the free update. As a result, everyone sticked to version 4 even longer. As a result, Etc, etc, etc. Just in case you haven't noticed, here it goes one more time: Version 5 is smaller (downloads!), faster and safer, because version 4 is not completely happy with Systems 8.5ff. This is why I will never never never grab out number 4 again, and why you should get your free not-even-new version 5 right now. Just click above. In tne magazine's favor, aladdin really did mess up on the initial release of stuffit 5 - there were all sorts of problems with people who registered earlier versions, had stuffit deluxe installed, actually had the temerity to use dropstuff, etc. But they've finally gotten all these problems shaken. Please, Please, Please, follow Martin's link and get the new stuffit. This issue drives every mac developer straight up a wall. PV
