Has anyone bought Shades of Reality by Hawkin-Z Graphics? I'm thinking of getting them from the marketplace, but I don't know if they are worth it(they don't show you pictures of them). I got Real World Metals and they are great. But I 'm just wondering. I hope they are worth buying.

Hi Kaom - I'm sorry for my slack advertising. They have been on the market for about 2 years now and I have received 0 complaints. The original ones were for RDS. I have received many compliments from customers. I have some old promo images at home I will try and dig up and post for you this evening. I've sold about 120 copies over the years. I'll get those images up for you this evening. Clint Hawkin-Z GraF-X Renderosity Administration

I am doing really good. Just got my Carrara upgrade and spend my time playing with it and Amapi. Have a few pictures in the works and if I ever finish one I will post it. Dealing with a major Everqest addiction right now and that eats away at my free time. Wife got me hooked. -Grimpup

Teh only thing to consider is if one person made a shader. You can too!! That's going to be the issue around here. Shader recipes should be freely exchanged. LIke i said if one person made a shader what's keeping you from creating the same one. After all there is no secret code or hidden thing you need to know. Just play around with the shader tree. Why pay someone for it.

ClintH posted Mon, 25 June 2001 at 4:12 PM

Tuck3D, Good point. Sit down and come up with 203 shaders. See how long it takes you. ;) Shades of Reality took several months to make. Some of the shader trees are very very deep. But you have a valid point. If you have the time and the recipies knock yourself out. :) Clint

I don't have the time to make that many shaders, otherwise I'd be making all of my own all day long. It's nice to have some good shaders to work with, then tweak them till you get exactly what you want. I'm looking forward to some pictures of Shades of Reality Clint, I'm definately interested in getting them, but I want to see them first. That's what sold me on litst's Real World Metals, I took one look at the pictures and I had to have them. Tuck 3D does have a valid point, but I don't have the time and coming up with my own is a pain sometimes. Hey Tuck 3d! Why don't you share some of those recipes with us, we could all use it, and you would be doing us all a service by sharing your knowledge, helping to make the Carrara users better at a skill that a lot of us need help with. Kaom

Clint, you said you sold 120 packs with no complaints ? Two possibilities : 1- You're so lucky you passed through those annoying cranky folks that never miss an occasion to whine, or ... 2- The annoying cranky folks i'm talking about had nothing to complain about . It has to be the second possibility : your shaders are some of the best ones i've seen ! And frankly, 200 great shaders for 25$ is very cheap ! To all : don't forget you can win Clint's pack in the contest of the month ! More info on the banner at the top of the page . About recipies of shaders : if you dig through the archives of this forum, you'll find a bunch of tricks for making your own shaders . litst litst.@freesbee.fr

Thanks litst...I've always hoped it was number 2. ;) Ok - Here are some fresh new quick renders I did a little while ago. They are available in the MarketPlace. There is also a sample pack you can download at my web site. Best Regards all... Clint Hawkin-Z GraF-X

Hi All! I picked up both sets- the Real World Metals and the Shades of Reality- Great sets of shaders- good job both of you! I'm excited about the Eovia upgrade- I had given up on Carrara but now I'm back. Thanks later Daf

I've been using them for about a year and a half now, they're great! Only complaint is that it took me a while to add all the folders to Carrara's shaders browser, but that's not Clints fault. I hope Eovia will someday add the ability to add all subfolders in a group that would be great. In response to shaders should be free... many are, in fact I have several from Bremmer, Tony Lynch, Litst, the Danscape shaders, some from Digital Carvers and maybe LHS, some I picked up at egroups, and a lot that I copied from screenshots posted here. I have found all of them extremly useful working with my own shaders, sometimes it's difficult to decide how to go about creating a shader and I'll disect one that I already have to see how it's done. HEY CLINTH, is the screenshot you posted above of the RD version, I don't have one called "Frog Skin" is it the same as the Green Lizard shader, or is it one that didn't make the conversion?

ClintH posted Tue, 26 June 2001 at 6:07 AM

Yea - Its the Green Lizard Skin rather than Frog Skin. I labeled the image wrong. Sorry. Thanks for the kind words. :) Clint

I bought it and its wonderful, he saved me months of work. i probably shouldnt say this but i will anyway, hehe. 25$ is too low a price for this product, i think Clint should charge more. Back to the MechWorks, Zhukov

ClintH posted Wed, 27 June 2001 at 8:13 AM

Zhukov - Thanks! Hmm...Maybe I will raise the price. ;) Just kidding. I'm glad to hear that you think they are to cheap. I tried to price them that way. So that the customer felt like they got a lot of stuff for a small price. Again - Very glad you are enjoying them. Have a good one. Clint Hawkin-Z GraF-X
