Subject: Mapping Question

KateTheShrew ( ) posted Mon, 25 June 2001 at 12:52 PM · edited Sat, 19 April 2025 at 6:14 AM

Is it possible to remap a P4 figure to take a Millenium figure texture? I seem to remember seeing where someone remapped posette to take a vicki map, but I'm not positive. If it IS possible, how is it done? I need step by step instructions because I am totally clueless at using UVMapper for anything other than making an original map for something. I wouldn't know where to begin to do something like remapping the dork to take a mike texture, for instance. Any help? Kate the Klueless

Yes, it has been done by Dmentia, the product is called "Posavic". It should be in the MarketPlace now. -Jeff

I would suggest contacting her about the "How" ;-)

bloodsong ( ) posted Mon, 25 June 2001 at 5:50 PM

heyas; i dont think you can do that in uvmapper, because uvmapper doesnt have a way for you to grab any bits and rotate them. you'd have to rotate the back skin so it is upside down to do a millenium style map. i asked steve cox to put that in, though :)

JeffH ( ) posted Mon, 25 June 2001 at 5:53 PM

I can rotate and flip things in UVmapper. Check the hotkey list.

JKeller ( ) posted Mon, 25 June 2001 at 5:54 PM

Bloodsong, just flip your selection vertically and then horizontally.

Ok, the problem here is, Dmentia made a posavicky but I need a posamichael for the Bobby hybrid. None of the P4 male body maps match the skin color and texture of the Michael face map I'm using. I'd go ahead and use Mike, but he doesn't have the right kind of clothes and I can't get the same "face" with the P4 male, believe me, I tried. sigh I'll tell ya, right now I'm about ready to cry, I'm so frustrated by this whole business. I can't even figure out how to re-map the stupid mesh in the first place. All I get is the same template I've already got. And there's no way to delete anything from the map (like the eyeballs, etc) and just keep the parts I want without going into Paint Shop or some other program. I just don't "get" UVMapper at all and I've read the tutorials over and over but none of them come out right when I try it. Oh, and I contacted Dmentia. She didn't respond. Yet. Kate (who is so freaking sick and tired of everything being for posette or vicky)

JKeller ( ) posted Mon, 25 June 2001 at 6:26 PM

Yeah I don't think there's an easy way to do it. Even if you did "get" UVMapper I think it'd take a bit of work. I know KenS did a fairly successful experiment of adapting a Michael texture to fit the P4 Dork UV's. You may want to try it that way.

KateTheShrew ( ) posted Mon, 25 June 2001 at 6:41 PM

That's what I've been trying to do all day. :) That's also why I'm so frustrated that I just wanna have a good cry. :P See, now you guys do all this stuff, but you never tell the rest of us HOW you did it. Or even where to start. Oh well, I'll figure something out. Dmentia said she had thought about doing a PosaMike type thing originally but someone talked her out of it - told her there wasn't much call for one since hardly anybody used the males. Well, DUH. They don't have all the cool stuff that the girls have. Hardly anyone makes things for them. What's got me all messed up here is I'm having to use Bobby for a character because I can't get the face I want on the dork and the type of clothes I need don't exist for Mike. But I can't find a P4 texture that matches the color/texture of the Mike map I'm using on the head. And I'm just not GOOD enough at this to make my own. I can make MINOR adjustments (erase the eyebrows, clone brush new lips, etc,) but doing one myself from scratch is just flat out beyond my abilities. That's why I don't paint on canvas, fer cryin' out loud. Kate

Skin textures aren't my strong point either. I had that same problem with Bobby. WarriorDL did a good job with it, but I had to set it asside for just that reason. BTW, what kind of clothing are you wanting to use that doesn't exist for Mike?

WarriorDL ( ) posted Mon, 25 June 2001 at 7:40 PM

Mapping one figure to have the "basic" template of another figure- In UVMapper, hit your Hotkeys. Ctrl-B will allow you to bring in a background image (.bmp format) With the template from whatever version you want to "mimic", just line up your obj to match the background. JKeller, what prob did you have with Bobby?

KateTheShrew ( ) posted Mon, 25 June 2001 at 7:54 PM

The clothing I want is the tunic and Anton's adventurer pants and all those "period" clothes for the P4 guy that just don't fit Mike. The stuff that IS available for Mike is ugly as all get out, no matter what kind of texture I put on it. It's just cut wrong or something (I want a tighter fit at the waist and not that baggy overhang). Plus, I would love to be able to use the tux on him :) I didn't know about the Ctrl-B option, Warrior. Thanks. Kate

JKeller ( ) posted Mon, 25 June 2001 at 8:07 PM

Warrior, just that I could never do a good enough job of getting the body and head skin colors to match up... like I said, skin textures are not my strong point.

Kate... would something like this be any help to you?

KateTheShrew ( ) posted Mon, 25 June 2001 at 8:18 PM

yes and no. That would be great for out on the road orc hunting with the home boys type wear, but I'm looking more for lounging around the castle with the main squeeze type stuff :) You know - a tad tighter, a tad sexier wink Kate

WarriorDL ( ) posted Tue, 26 June 2001 at 1:52 AM

Kate, have you tried the Mike clothing I have? It's not medieval, but it's Mike clothes L JKeller, ah. I had hoped some people would make specific textures for Bobby, but that hasn't been the case sigh Guess I'll go through the textures I've collected over time, adapt them, then get permission to post 'em on my site for DL.

KateTheShrew ( ) posted Tue, 26 June 2001 at 9:07 AM

Yep, Warrior, I've got your mike clothes and just waiting for the right project to use them in. (I don't control the images, the images control me g)

bloodsong ( ) posted Tue, 26 June 2001 at 5:16 PM

oh duh! yeah, you can just flip the map around. okay, yas got me on that one. :) kate.... you mean he should be wearing a chainmail bikini?? ;)

bloodsong ( ) posted Tue, 26 June 2001 at 5:19 PM

but wait... you can flip things to rotate them 180 degrees, but you cant do a 90 degree rotation of them. now, i know you can rotate the MODEL on the x/y/z axes and request a new uvmap to get it facing the way you want. but with the human figures it's rather important NOT to get a new planar map, as the sides are all un-tucked out, and that would mess that up. if you know how to rotate a selection 90 degrees, let me know, cuz it aint in MY hotkeys :)

LOL Bloodsong...yeah...a chain-MALE bikini snicker Kate
