anyone have some tips on making a realistic foamy (not overly foamy) shorline? I have a an ocean with to large land masses and needs some help creating a more realistic intersection with the water and land. Thanks in advance :) Bryan BTW...my new image is up...hasn't gotten many hits as much as the others...

There are a few tricks to that one...the one I have seen (outside postwork) that seems to be the most effective is the use of Volumetric clouds, squashed down...rock meshes work well but, may require some postwork to smooth the jagged edges off of them. I think there is a tutorial available here for that: www.geocities.com/SoHo/Gallery/2780/

On the water, I would probably air brush in photoshop. I have found that beaches come out nice if you use the "whole mountain" preset, drag the edge way out and then sink the mountain down into the water.clay posted Sat, 07 July 2001 at 1:21 AM
Or you could use altitude on your land masses mats to set a waterline, then use a cloudplane (2D) to add foam just under the water line, like anything it will take some tweaking but the results are usually worth it.
Do atleast one thing a day that scares the hell outta ya!!

I put up a tut at the link above. Didn't concentrate on the shorline, but the technique works. Might do another for shorelines some time.Amixiam posted Sat, 07 July 2001 at 12:14 PM
