First, I'd like to say Hi to everyone since I'm a new member at renderosity and this is my first time posting. I'm a Carrara Newbie and I've taken a liking towards modeling despite the fact that I lack experience. Now recently, I have been working with Carrara's Vertex Modeler and I'm having a problem with the poly's normals. It seems that some polys get different normals than others and when I try to offset the surface, the polys head and different directions (not to mention it messes up my objects even before expanding them). Can someone clue me in as to how to fix the normals?? I've tried Reverse and Standard polymesh normals but not all the polys have the same normals so the ones that were wrong get fixed but the right ones get messed up. HELP ME!!! please Thanks in advance

Akyun, I confess that sometimes I have trouble predicting which way an extrude is going to go. Sometimes using a negative number works (if extruding 1 unit causes the face to go the wrong way, I'll try -1 unit). I'm confident that one of the more advanced users here will chime in with better advice. --Terri

Welcome to the forum, Akyun . You're right, sometimes normals get messed up in the vertex modeller . There is a simple workaround : save the file, close it and reopen it . This will reset the normals, so you can continue to work with your model in good conditions . litst
