I have Poser 3. When I export a posed model as an .OBJ file to use it in Bryce:- (a) If I choose "each part as a separate group", all the jointed parts are separate and are separated by unwelded loose edges of polygons? No wonder people keep moaning about split seams in Poser models. (b) All the 4-sided polygons are divided into triangles, and "vn" lines (normals) are added, making the resulting exported .OBJ file about twice as big as the model's geometry file. If the user is not going to render the model in Poser, it would be useful if he could choose an option "do not triangularize, do not add normals". That would save much computer time and file size. Anyway, in my spaceman model (see "Alien" just put in the Poser Fun Stuff), Poser's own smoothing and normals are useless because it is too enthusiastic and makes his gear look half-melted,and in Bryce I must re-smooth with the maximum smoothing angle about 60 deg,.

I have noticed that Triangulation problem myself. I make props in Nendo that are made up of four-sided polys only to have them ruined by Triangualation upon import. For Poser Figures you can put the "S off" statement in the OBJ to help get rid of that soft-look. -JH.

Poser is quite happy with four sided polygons. And, despite what has been posted about that being it's limit, there are actually two polygons with five sides in the new nude male figure. A four sided poly must still be planar. Probably my last post on this forum, see you on the other side. Joe

Importing a prop with four sided polys will result in triangulation in my experience (.3ds format). -JH.

In my alien model most of the polygons were 4-sided. But in a posed form of it exported as an .OBJ file, all the faces have been divided into triangles. (I won't object if any pentagons etc are divided so no face has more than 4 corners.)

Someone suggested putting "WELD" commands in the .CR2 file to cure split seams. But the Poser 3 Nude Man's .CR2 file contains "weld" (lowercase) commands for every moving joint in his body, but still when posed and exported as an .OBJ file in "each body part as a group" mode, every body part comes bounded by loose polygon edges with no vertexes shared between groups. No wonder Poser 3 users moan about splits and creases along boundaries between parts. I have Poser 3.
