In Photoshop I use one of two methods 1) I just select and area of the main picture, and do Copy and then Open a new image as it is the size of the copy... Then I paste.. If the image is bigger than the required 200 x 200 I then just make the biggest measurement 200 with contraint ratios selected.. 2) Follow the same steps up to the new image. I make the new image 200 x 200 then paste.. I then resize the pasted picture to fit while keeping its shape by holding the shift key. Then crop to the size of the picture. In Paint Shop Pro I make a new image 200 x 200 and select an area the same shape as the part I selected from the orinal image and just 'paste into selection'.. Then I crop to the size of the picture. I find this works better than just doing a resize as you don't have too much lose of quality.

I create a new image 200 X 200 or 100 X 100 copy and paste it as a new layer over my image. I make it transparant and move it around until I have a thumbnail I think is interesting. I select that, move to the lower layer (the image) copy and paste as new image. Then of course I delete the layer with the square off my finished image.....

I just crop a section of my pic in Photoshop. If you select crop and then enter the values of 200x200, it automatically resizes the selection to 200x200.
