Ok, this is by far the hardest thing i've ever made. After extensice modelling in Rhino 3d (and i mean alot, i had to make 3 models before the little guy looked right) i moved it over to Carrara for texturing and additional modeliing. I'd appreciate it if you guys told me what you think, or if you have any other thoughts on this picture. Thanks everyone!

That's really nice, mf193! Once again your attention to detail shines through. You caught just about every nook and crannie on him. Only possible complaint is he looks really 'clean.' He only was that shiny at the beginning of 'A New Hope.' But the model is flawless. Nice work. Nebula-SNS Moving to Lightwave...

Very nice! How much of the detail on the main body is modeled, and how much is texturemapped? It's a lot of work either way. I had a surreal moment last week when I was channel surfing. I saw R2D2 and C-3PO on Sesame Street (an educational program for very young children). It must have been some kind of trade between Jim Henson and George Lucas, as Henson did extensive work for Lucas in "The Empire Strike Back" and "Return of the Jedi". It was just odd to see them conversing with Big Bird.

i was actually going for the clean shiny look. Barely any of it is textured, i think that modelling adds far more realism.

Very cool model of R2. Only nit-pick is that there's an odd gouge in the blue panel surrounding his eye. Everything else looks great; a bit of license with the shape of the feet and such, but it's great, nonetheless. I think that unless this is an ewok or jawa starship he's in, the door on the right is too short.... As for odd moments, I was in Frankfurt in January and saw Sesamistra -- yep, Sesamie Street in German. Nothing quite like seeing the Count saying "ein, ein, ein wunderbarischer k!"
