My question is regarding an application that translates formats, but Poser is a common denominator so here I am. I was scanning old messages on the topic and ran across one from PhilC mentioning 3D Explorer. After looking the web page over I've got uncertainty that can only be addressed by people who don't have a $$ stake in how I take the answer. ;-) That would be you, the talented user. I like the demo idea, but have a real problem with being asked to pony up an extra $200 to get a feature that is demonstrably prone to odd results and which I can't verify will work satisfactorily. Pretty big leap of faith, and that's a commodity that comes dearly from me. I want to explore using both trueSpace 5.1 and 3D Studio Max R2 for making/editing/et cetera figures I begin in Poser 4. It sounds like the 3D Explorer would be useful for making COB files, and for porting stuff back and forth to/from 3DS format. Prior experiments in this area using the Habware plugins give lousy results. Is 3D Explorer a real solution -- one worth almost as much as tS 5 cost me in the first place? :-) Cheers! Mark

Try the freeware JAVA app "Compose1.1" linked in the FreeStuff utilities section. It requires that you install the Java Runtime Environment 1.2 (JRE), but it's free and can convert COB text based files to OBJ. -JH.

That sounds wonderful. I've got lots of Java development gear in place already, and I'm off thereto to nab the app. Thanks! Mark

I find 3D Explorer really handy in changing formats. Every once in a while I get OBJ formats with one of the three axes not functional A quick round trip through 3D Explorer fixes it nice. I have been able to translate about a third of the 3dsMax models I get to obj or 3ds with it.
