Moral :: don't touch Word for Windows. Stick to Word Perfect. It can't autoexec macros, and thus can't transmit viruses.

Or: If you are using Word, 1) Turn macros off. 2) Don't accept DOC files from the net. Have them send RTF or another format that doesn't carry macros.

It's better, the file has a file name ****.doc.lnk so even in word it won't open unless you tell him.
