Am I missing something. Lip movements don't seem to be saved when exported to a BVH. I contacted Lipsinc concerning this and they tell me it's not a Mimic problem because this happens even when the lip movements are done by hand. Has anyone found a solution to this? Am I missing a setting somewhere?

I think BVH deals with bodyparts, rather than facial movement.

I guess that makes sense when you consider the history of the BVH format. But, aren't lips body parts? ;)

if you check the BVH exported from poser, for headm rEye, lEye are listed, no lips, brows... Head and eyes can rotate, but lipa are considered part of head in term of BVH. why don't you open a BVH in a wordpad and see what it has.

btw, lips movement is a facial morph, morph does not export. only translate, rotate amd scale data are exported.

so bulging an arm or leg is a morph, which does not export, but bending them( rotate ) is exportable.

BVH only has to do with the bones, joints etc. With mimic you are dealing with morph targets which are not exported. For more on mimic and making mimicable models check out my FAQ. I'll also be posting an update when I get back off vacation in mid Aug.

What are you exporting the BVH motion to? I work with Lightwave and if you use the Poser Pro Pack along with Mimic you can export everything to be used in Lightwave (and 3D Studio Max) - and the movements created using Mimic are exported as well. A did a few tests several months ago and it seemed to work. Of course then you'll have to sync the sound afterwards, but nothing's perfect. Though if you just want to export the BVH information and not any figures... uhh, don't know.

I'm exporting to Electric Image. I'm using a program that converts the obj to a FACT. One of the strengths is that it converts objs from Poser or Canoma (or whatever) with the textures completely intact. See the link for samples. I'm still figuring out motion obviously, but the stills look great and render in seconds. I think my answer is going to be morph targets...possibly in combination with BVH for the figure movements. This is all very enlightening. Let's hear it for Pro Pack support for EI! :)
