Hello. I was wondering if anyone could help me out with this....I want to make a metal engraving effect, like you would see on a plaque or trophy. I have Photoshop 5.5, Illusrator 9 & Poser 4 at my disposal. I have looked about on the web with no luck for a tutorial. I attempted to use my roomates computer (as he has Vue) but since I don't know the 1st thing about that program, my efforts were in vain. Does anyone know where I might find some tutorials for this (Im hoping to do it in Photoshop) or know how I might accomplish this? Thanks, John

I am in 6, but I've done it in 5.5 and the methods are close. I just used the emboss tool in the layer effects. It looks like you have a drop shadow too, that does'nt work all that well. I put my type on a layer, and used the bevel and emboss tool. In 5.5, I think it is under layer effects. Direction for it is down, you might need to tweak it alittle until you get what you need.Good luck! Green Lantern was one of the coolest!

This is another method that should work in all versions of Photoshop above 3. Write your text black on a white background and flatten the image.Create a new channel in the channels pallette & select copy and paste the entire image into the new channel.Select the remaining channels & fill with white keeping only the text image stored in the new channel.Go to filters, render, lighting effects & at the bottom of the options menu on a drop down list marked "texture channels" go down to your new channel(Alpha 1, if you haven,t given it a name) & select it.Make sure the white is high box is ticked then play with the lighting effects until you can see the sort of result you want. You should now have a greyscale image which can be coloured with the hugh/saturation option(tick colorize)and then futher developed with layers such as soft/hard light etc. Try the attached link for some good metalic effect tutorials for the plate.
