So, originally, I was just going to make this scene which I called "The Pavillion at the End of the Canal"... A nice romantic name... :) However, at some point in the project I decided that I wanted to make it so that no matter where you placed the camera in the scene, you would get a nice image... So, I set about working in the all aspects of the scene, inside the pavillion, behind the walls, behind the thickets, etc...Which took a lot of time and a lot aggravation sometimes, cause there is no way to measure stuff in Vue... So you don't know if you have 2 things exactly the same distance apart... So, the gates and hedges were made with terrains... The little tress with primitves...

tradivoro posted Tue, 31 July 2001 at 11:54 PM

Here's the detail of the rooster and the grid at the top of the pavillion... The rooster and grid were also doen with terrains...

tradivoro posted Tue, 31 July 2001 at 11:56 PM

This is the side gate, created with terrains as well... Most of these renders were done in preview because Vue has been crashing on me with every final render and it never finishes the render.. So I wasted hours, on 3 occassions each time crashing... I have to install the update and see if that does any good..

tradivoro posted Tue, 31 July 2001 at 11:57 PM

The ivy was created with Plantstudio... I had to do about 5 tries before I got ivy that looked realistic... Also, all the textures in the picture were done by me, including the wall texture you see here...

tradivoro posted Wed, 01 August 2001 at 12:01 AM

This is a shot inside the pavillion, looking out the back where the trees are growing... Not the best render, but I wasted hours trying to trouble shoot what was wrong... Also, this picture was started in Vue 2... By the time I got to Vue 4 I said, hey, let's incorporate some of that cool furniture provided on the disk... So, that's what you're seeing...

tradivoro posted Wed, 01 August 2001 at 12:02 AM

Another shot inside the pavillion... I want to work the inside better, so now it looks kind of stark...

tradivoro posted Wed, 01 August 2001 at 12:04 AM

And last but not least, this is a shot looking out the pavillion... In the future, I plan to do more landscaping so that it does not look so bare out there.... :)

tradivoro posted Wed, 01 August 2001 at 12:04 AM

looking outside pavillion

tradivoro posted Wed, 01 August 2001 at 12:14 AM

Yes, cause had he not picked this primitive stuff, I wouldn't have gotten into this mess.. :)

Varian posted Wed, 01 August 2001 at 12:16 AM

WOW! I am blown away! Not only excellent work, Paul, but what an interesting place too. Now you need to put it into QTVR so a person can walk around the scene. :)

Varian posted Wed, 01 August 2001 at 12:17 AM

I can see that, y'know. ;>

tradivoro posted Wed, 01 August 2001 at 12:39 AM

Well, thank you very much... First i gotta learn how to animate in this program, then I can think about how to do the walking around bit... But you're right, it is a good idea... :)

MikeJ posted Wed, 01 August 2001 at 12:54 AM

oooommmmaagooombmammamnbababb.... I am at a loss for words, man! Not only excellent work, but such a creative way of displaying it!! man....man,....oooogaboogabrmlbbbb! Sorry... I've lost control....

MikeJ posted Wed, 01 August 2001 at 12:54 AM

really good Paul, excellent! Thank you. :)

gebe posted Wed, 01 August 2001 at 1:34 AM

That's a very very nice work. You could create a visitable pavillon with it as I did with the "Vue d'Esprit Hotel". This could be very nice :-) Guitta

tradivoro posted Wed, 01 August 2001 at 1:47 AM

Hey Mike, thanks very much... Actually, some of this stuff was like, insane trying to match it up... There's no way to measure... anyway, I just realized that I forgot to post the pavillion itself up close... Lining up those windows was a couple of hours work, as was lining up the posts on the roof...

tradivoro posted Wed, 01 August 2001 at 1:50 AM

Thank you very much Guitta... I've seen your hotel and that's a magnificent work, very creative... Maybe if I get good at animation, people can take a virtual tour of the grounds.. But I still have to plant flowers, have a couple of hills in the distance, birds here and there.. :)

aspirantnemo posted Wed, 01 August 2001 at 1:57 AM

Whoa, somehow this put my mind at ease to see that I was not the only detail obsessed for this VC 8-) 8-) 8-) You've been more brave than me with vegetation (a domain i've still to explore). Seriously now, I fervently second the idea about making an animation with this great scene!!! Herv

jpcr posted Wed, 01 August 2001 at 2:44 AM

Fantastic, and yes please try to make a quicktimeVR of it,we would love so much to be able to visit YOUR place. jp

Sacred Rose posted Wed, 01 August 2001 at 3:21 AM

I'm with Mike on this one... oooogaboogabrmlbbbb! and WOW!!!!!!!!!

SAMS3D posted Wed, 01 August 2001 at 3:54 AM

Well what can you say when you are in the presence of such beauty. Especially at all angles. Nice job. Sharen:)

tesign posted Wed, 01 August 2001 at 6:44 AM

Great stuff and fantastic effort! :)

Odyssey posted Wed, 01 August 2001 at 8:41 AM

Absolutely magnificent :)

tradivoro posted Wed, 01 August 2001 at 9:18 AM

Well, thank you very everybody, I'm glad it's made a favorable impression on everybody, in spite of the fact that I still have to finish the grounds, have some flower bed, some kind of scenery for the distance... But I was focusing on the time being on the top scene... And now, I gotta figure out animation so that you can take a trip of the grounds... it also remains to be seen where I"m going to post said animation, since I don't have a web site yet... :)

bloodsong posted Wed, 01 August 2001 at 9:32 AM

heyas; okay, you are officially nuts :) that's a good thing. but, um... why's the hedge and little topiary bits in front of the gate kinda blocking it? that seems a little odd. it seems to me you should be able to hit the 'align bottom' command button to get the windows lined up. of course, spreading them out sideways would be a trick. :/ vue DOES need some kinda measurements! (did you try looking at the ground plane grid? i thought that might hold some clue, but not sure....) oh, and you dont have to animate to make a qtvr, do you? the user just uses the mouse to fly around, you dont need to animate it yourself. of course, i dont know what im talking about, but i thought that's how it went ;)

tradivoro posted Wed, 01 August 2001 at 9:43 AM

Hey Bloodsong, thanks for pronouncing me officially nuts... :) But yeah, that hedge and topiary bits are in front on gate number 2... I ran out of time for rendering gate number 1 which is in front of the canal, but you can see it in the looking out the window shot... Gate number 2 is so that you can walk to the pavillion, if you're on the side of the grounds wihtout having to go all the way to the front of the canal, which is quite long... Yeah, the windows spread sideway was the main problem... You don't know if they're the same distance apart... Well, in re: qtvr, whether its animation or just flying around, I still don't have a clue and have to figure it out... :)

agiel posted Wed, 01 August 2001 at 12:04 PM

Agreed... Vue needs some measurement tools. I always feel like I am working blindly when I use the scatter and drop panel. What is the meaning of 'from x=-100 to x=100' when you don't even know the dimensions of your object ? :)

Varian posted Wed, 01 August 2001 at 1:28 PM

Best tip for scattering: make four copies of the item you want scattered, and place them at the four corners of where you want to scatter them. Select all four, then open the scatter dialogue. The appropriate location positions will already be inserted. :)

tradivoro posted Wed, 01 August 2001 at 1:36 PM

Thanks for that tip Varian... I was trying to scatter different stuff during this project and couldn't get that thing to work... But I wasn't using it right... :) I'll try that tonite..

tradivoro posted Wed, 01 August 2001 at 1:56 PM

Yes Agiel, definitely there should be some kind of grid you can turn on, even when working on surfaces... Right now in Vue there is a grid but only on the ground plane...

Petunia posted Wed, 01 August 2001 at 2:20 PM

Super JOB!!!! I could build you a grid to bring into vue when things need alignment. Like Mike and Sharon, I work in AutoCad so that is an easy project. You could size the thing any way you want for differant measurements. I will do up some this week in between the grandkids (they are staying for 2 weeks).

tradivoro posted Wed, 01 August 2001 at 2:35 PM

Thank you very much Diana... Anytime is fine, since future tweakings of the scene are going to be mostly horticultural, more flowers, more trees, mountains in the distance, that sort of thing.. But there's always another scene where surface grids come in handy... :)

Axe555 posted Wed, 01 August 2001 at 6:43 PM

Wow! What an incredible amount of effort youv'e put into this! I hope you post updates as you refine it :D Rich

tradivoro posted Thu, 02 August 2001 at 12:37 AM

Thanks Rich... I'm going to try to figure out how to animate it, this way giving a tour of the grounds... :)

Tammy posted Thu, 02 August 2001 at 10:21 PM

Wow this is Amazing, I will be looking for the animation. The detail in this is fantastic.

Insane Ltd. posted Fri, 03 August 2001 at 3:25 PM

Oh, WOW! If patience is a virtue, you gotta be a Saint! Excellent images, Paul.

tradivoro posted Sat, 04 August 2001 at 1:55 PM

Thanks Tammy... I've already tried a couple of preliminary animations and it's too fast for my tastes, so I gotta figure out how to make it more gentle and slow....

tradivoro posted Sat, 04 August 2001 at 1:57 PM

Hey D. Nash thanks.. I still got more to make the whole scene complete, but hopefully, in the future, I can post somewhere an animation of the grounds, with hills in the distance and flower beds and stuff like that...
