I did a major overhaul on my computer and thought I'd share the results regarding Bryce 5 render time. I used the included image for both renders (the software was exactly the same in both machines for the test). The old computer was a: Celeron 300A overclocked to 450MHz with 192MB of RAM and an old Hercules Thriller 3D video card (8MB RAM) The new computer is a: Athalon 1.2 GHZ with 256MB of RAM and a TNT2 32MB video card (I know that the video card doesn't affect render time, but it sure does affect the ability to pan, etc while working...) The results: Old machine - 7:06 New machine - 1:52 That'a an almost 4 fold increase in render time! I'm rather pleased. Now I just have to set up the old computer for my daughter to use so that I don't have to let her use my computer for her stuff!
