You think you have copyright problems - how would you handle this. Go to the above link and read what happened. Aeriol ps. I have known Jon for quite a few years and even had a painting commissioned from him when he was just starting to get noticed. I paid $700 Cdn. then, I wonder what it's worth today. ;-)

I think I would milk the PR value of this for all it was worth and forget about the infringement. There's nothing he can do about that aspect of it, so might as well make lemonade from those proverbial lemons.

Yeah, he knows he can't do anything so he's just going to try to forget about it, but he's getting hate mail from people who don't know the truth!

I know, let's go bomb the crap out of his country, that ought to teach him..... oh wait we tried that once... I agree with ATTHISSTAGE. As a practical matter there's not a lot you can really do about it. Let's face it, compared to the other stuff that Saddam has done, copyright theft seems kind of trivial. Who cares about the hate mail. He can at least create generate a some interest in his work, maybe he should figure out the value of the painting and write it off as a tax loss or maybe claim it as advertising expense..

Advertising!! Ha ha, well he IS getting that. Maybe it's not such a bad thing after all. ;-)

This one can't be won, as far as I see... just tell John that his art is so good even Sadam wants it. Bummer, though...

What a nasty situation. This is one I wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole. That's one guy you don't want to mess with. But I agree with the others above, use it to the best benefit. Maybe it's a weird blessing in disguise. It'll definitely get some attention. Melanie

The power of the news mwedia... I would start by specking to the New York Times. If they already published somthing on the book it could be considered a follow up and may infact be somthing they are interested in. If nothing else That may atleast help clear him from the hate mail. -Gabe-

It does sound like a losing battle. And of course I wish it just wasn't so. Sometimes life is just incredibly unfair. Your work is astounding and I can see why someone would want it. So I hope at least that you get some recognition out of all of this and can get the word out that this is indeed yours. Your best bet at this point is word of mouth and don't give up at least telling people. Good luck. James
