I have tried rendering scenes, asking Carrara to save G Buffers. When I go to open the file in Photoshop, most of the time the G Buffers dont show up. Is there some trick to get them to show? Occassionally the same file will show the channels when I open it but most of the time it wont. What's the deal?

Hi tbricker, Are you using special effects, like depth of field or light cones... ? Wich g-buffers have you checked ?

Maybe this is just a where are they? When you go into photoshop and open the pictures you wont see the gbuffers. You have to find the pallete that has the layers list on it. I think its on the same palatte as your history brush. I cant remember b/c I have my menu's customized and the layers list is on its own palette now. They are just going to show up as black and white images of your original drawings. I actually never really use them in photoshop but I use them a ton in AE.

G-Buffers show in Potoshop as Alfa Channels on the Channel Pallet.

I was asking this because i remember someone saying that some special effects make some g-buffers unusable . I don't remember wich special effects, and wich g-buffers, though . Anyone knows something about this ? litst

Litst...some of the post effects dont apply themselves to the g-buffer. IMHO this is a stupid oversight but what can you do? The good news is that the post effects in Carrara arnt worth using (IMHO) and its just much better to use the G-Buffers in AE or photoshop b/c it seems to be much more accurate.

Well I figured it out. If you put lense flare on any of the lights, G Buffers wont work. Kind of a drag because it would be nice to have Carrara's flares in my photoshop doc. They look better than Knoll lense flares.
