Hi everyone, I'm new to Poser and Renderosity. I can't seem to get the Renderosity searches to find what I want, so forgive me if this is explained somewhere else. Since getting Poser I've been furiously downloading anything and everything. A bit later I realise what a load of "junk" (purely situationial of course) I've got, and what a mess my folders are in. For example, I now have about five or six separate folders under figures, and another four or five under props, all containing clothes. Some containing one item. I tried moving these all to one folder but not all of them showed up in Poser. Clearly there is a knack to this? I can understand that props and figures etc must be kept separate, but how do I tidy up my folders in general? Please help if you can. I never extract to the poser folder always to desktop first then put them where i want. Only thing that needs to go into specific folders are the Geometries but as for cr2, pzs etc they can be in any folder in the relevent library folder. For example i have all my Vicky cr2s in a folder called Vicky and her clothes in Vicky Clothes. As long as you keep the filetypes in the right library ie cr2 in character, pz in Pose etc you should be okay

and - btw - rodpanther this information about the refering obj can be changed through hand-editing the cr2 ... :o)

Thank you to both. Yeah Rod. I also always extract to their own folder first, but then end up putting them where suggested in the readmes. I thought it was that simple, but it didn't work once before, I assume because I must have mixed props and characters etc.

I find it annoying that everyone who makes an .obj file thinks it needs its own separate directory instead of using ones that exist already. You can end up with a huge mess unless you edit each .cr2 as suggested above.

i always thought that the obj files had to go in their own geometry folder. Also how to you edit cr2 file is their any tutorials?

Quite simple ... open the *.cr2 with a texteditor (e.g. notepad) in the upper area (you should see it directly) you'll find the name of the obj referenced with it's name ... there you can change the folder of the obj ... After that search for this obj further in the document and edit it the same way you've done at first. (maybe make a secure-copy of your cr2 first) Please take care that obj's makes refering rsr's when they are first used ... so normally the rsr don't need to be in your new directory then ... it'll be build automatically after first usage of the obj :o) Hope this helps ... sorry I'm not at home at the moment - in case you've any questions I can answere you via mail in 9 hours.

Only if you place no value on your time, LOL! Changing an OBJ reference is easy enough in an editor -- as long as it isn't in a 50MB PZ3... The 50 or so tools in CR2Edit are all about saving time, as is PStart, included, which gives you a recent files list for Poser. Very true, but I'm a hobby poser (poserist?) and so I'd rather save the money and take a little longer :) Plus I don't think my poor old computer would like me very much if I tried to make it deal with 50MB files on a regular basis ;)
