Has anyone noticed a change in rendering characteristics comparing 5 to 4. I'm working with the demo now and I getting really harsh colors even when lightening and varying the color of ambient light, both material-wise and the sky, as well as shadow. I've noticed this in Bryce5 imagery by others and am wondering if there might be some not so subtle changes in the engine. It is particulary striking in the Treelab. Also the foilage is not particulary defined. manowar

I notice the same thing in the tree lab and I also notice that the nano screen does not always update.

is Gamma Correction enabled? if so, that could be the cause of your muddy colors. To turn off, click the bottom arrow on the left of the workspace window and turn it off there.

KenS, No, Gamma is off. Perhaps when I finish this frame, I'll post an example. Thanks. manowar Regarding the Nanoscreen, I've noticed that too, even while in wirframe mode.

only other thing I can think of would be the ambience on the texture is set a little too high in the materials lab. MOst Bryce textures have a default ambience setting of something like 19.5, which usually is too high and gives a washed out look.

I checked the material's ambience, but its still poor. The item isn't being washed out; it's the opposite, almost like the appearance of an extra heavy gamma. Thanks,

I've noticed the same thing- so much so that I tried to reinstall Bryce 4 for comparison. But whether due to Bryce 5 or Corel's Bryce 4 update it will no longer accept my original B4 serial number. It never ends, does it? Sometimes I think I should go back to charcoal, ink and pencil... But I suspect it is a matter of settings. If I import some of my older B4 work most of it renders very similarly (but not identically) in B5.
