get a library thumbnail to properly show a prop (e.g., hair) that uses a transparency map. The problem is that the saved thumbnail uses the unrendered pic and hence the "prop" is not visable (shown properly) in the library. Thnx, in advance, for any help on this subject. cheers, dr geep

render the item, use the image as a background then rotate the camera so that the transparent "dots" aren't showing, then save to library.

The RSR convertor by Harper in the utilities section of Freestuff is a good way to get nice professional looking thumbnails

RSR converter is really easy to use too. I've made thumbnails of almost every transmapped hair prop I have with it, so I can remember what's what.

... for me. I tried the "background" picture method and the thumbnail comes out real dark and no details visible. The RSR convertor blows up when I try to convert a file in either direction. Anything else I can try ............. Thnx for the suggestions anyhow. cheers, dr geep

Set the hair's display mode to cartoon with line. This will provide a thumbnail you can see and the bonus that you can see what is happening in the document window better. Rendering will be unaffected.

Hi geep. Long time no read. Have you tried Yarp's P3dO Explorer, available at http://lcrepiliere.free.fr/? I just tried a few things with it. Set up and render at 91X91 pixels, and save as a TIF. Save the prop to the library. Run P3dO, right clickedit picture the item you want to change. Click the paste button on the window that pops up, and save. You won't get the 32 bit look, but it will show what you want. Phil's idea is also a good one. I use it to see what the hair is doing without having to change the transparency settings.

Hadn't thought of that (Yarp's P3dO). Takes a few extra clicks but it works just fine. Appreciate the solution. Phil C's suggestion is a good one, also. Works real good for adjusting the pose without the need to render each time. Thank again to all. cheers, dr geep ;=]
