Subject: Smudge tool problem!

I recently got a new computer and installed WIN2000... transfered all software into it icluded Wacom drivers. However, I seem to have a problem with my smudge tool. As I try to use it, it acts strange and detects some background color! It happens when I choose anything less than 100% opacity. I have not change any of the settings from what I had before... background and foreground colors are white... I need someone to tell me what causes smudge tool to do this? Here is the sample of what it looks like! I really appreciate your help!

Hi Picky, What version are you using. If it's 6, have you updated to 6.01? I believe this is a known problem with 6.0 that was fixed with the patch. -Jay Arraich

Thank you Jay for your reply. I do have a 6.0 version of Photoshop... had no idea there is a 6.01 version out there. It is confusing to me because I did work with 6.0 up until now, without any problems what so ever! Let's hope upgrade will solve this problem. Thanks again, Picky

I had this problem too, it's not with the system or the tablet: it has to do with the transparency... If you check the box to preserve transparency, it won't happen. ...but that can get annoying if you want the edges of the image to look like that in which case turning on the preservation of transparency will make it impossible... So really, I can tell you why it happens, but not necessarily how to fix it, sorry!

Thanks Laetia for your input! I just updated my Photoshop to 6.0.1 version and the problem is gone! My original problem occured when I upgraded from 98 to Windows 2000. In 98, everything worked fine. However, after the new 6.0.1 upgrade, everything is working in Windows 2000!

I wonder if this really has to do with the version of the system, though.... I'm on a Macintosh and the problem is present on 6.0 here. Possibly just a 6.0 issue. ;)
